Three men are in police in custody in connection with the beating of medical doctor, Dr. Theodore Thomas of Sineku on Saturday night.
The incident took place about 11 p.m. on Saturday after the official opening of carnival in Bataca in Kalinago Territory.
Dr. Thomas sustained injuries to the head and hand.
The police stated that shots were fired during the incident, but are not sure who fired them.
DNO spoke to a source with intimate knowledge of the matter who said that one of the bullets that were fired, grazed Thomas’s scalp.
According to the source, a full assessment of that wound will have to be done, but so far a CT scan has revealed that everything is fine.
Police sources, as well as residents of the area, also stated that one of those arrested sustained a gunshot wound to the ankle and an injury to his face. He was taken for an X-ray.
The police said Thomas was discharged on Sunday from the PMH and they are investigating the cause of the incident.

Best wishes to Dr Thomas for a speedy recovery. Not sure of the facts but the incident is very unfortunate. The violence associated with our cultural activities such as Carnival is also very unfortunate. Too much alcohol, drugs, hate???
Our prayers are with you Doc!
These hooligans are getting away with murder ,attempted murder ,aggravated assault and rape because we have a broken justice system and the so called powers in charge sit on their butts and collect fat checks. No justice…..but they say they love their country! Do y’all dam jobs! Or move out the way let the people who actually give a rat’s behind, step in and send those cowards to prison.
I was attacked on Cork street in December 2013 resulting in massive head injury. Luckily I ended in the good hands of Dr. Theodore Thomas who stitched my head and took care of me at PMH. It was devastating to learn that Dr. Thomas had been assaulted. I send him my best regards and I sincerely hope that he will fully recover. Skilled and dedicated persons like him are a valuable asset for Dominica. Thank you Dr. Thomas.
I hope these trouble makers are locked up for the carnival season.
Carnival season alone? If they’re truly violent criminals, they need to be separated from civilised society for a long, long time.
doctor ” T ” this brought tears to my eyes. Please forgive them for they knew not what they did. Am happy you are recovering and I pray that at the end of all this you remain on our lovely Dominica and continue to help the sick.
