Tourism minister says work on Tourism Master Plan moving ahead

Minister of Tourism, Robert Tonge, has revealed that work on the blue print of the much-touted Tourism Master Plan will move ahead in a few months, and will reflect the government’s vision of resilience.

“The review of the Tourism Policy and Master Plan will be moving ahead in the next few months, to reflect the new realities, and the new vision of resilience, as we develop the necessary blue print to move our national tourism agenda over the next decade,” he stated, at the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association’s (DHTA) annual general meeting, on Wednesday.

The Minister detailed the expected expenses from the various ministries contributing to the improvement of natural sites across the island.

“This financial year, the Ministry of Tourism is expected to spend well over $9-million on the various site improvement across the island,” Tonge said. “And, through the Ministry of Environment, an additional $2.8-million has been budgeted for the improvement of trails and facilities within the natural parks and eco-sites; and $2.4-million under urban renewal, to include the upgrade of the Botanical Gardens back to its former glory.”

Tonge also noted that better amenities and signage must be incorporated at all natural sites, and the level and quality of information and guide services should be enhanced. This, as well improvement in the training of tourism industry workers “to ensure that we can render the highest quality of service on a consistent basis,” he assured will inspire visitors to promote the island positively.

In the 2016/2017 National Budget, $8.5-million was allocated for marketing Dominica, to facilitate implementation of the much-touted Tourism Master Plan.

Meantime, Tonge challenged the DHTA and all tourism stakeholders to focus on rebuilding the tourism industry with resilience in mind, considering that several businesses associated with tourism are concentrated in areas prone to natural disasters, such near coastlines, mountainous areas, rivers.

Resilience, Tonge explained, refers not only to infrastructure, but also encompasses the planning and implementation of disaster risk management protocols.

“The hotel and tourism sector needs to consider its rebuilding program, not just to include structurally sound building applications, but we must consider and ensure that we adhere to proper building codes and standards, and examine more carefully where we build and construct our tourism facilities, including hotel properties,” he urged. “We need, as a matter of urgency, to implement disaster risk management protocols, including that all tourism businesses must have disaster plans, and delegate responsibilities to our trained staff and management.”

“National Budget, $8.5-million was allocated for marketing Dominica, to facilitate implementation of the much-touted Tourism Master Plan. “(Tonge).

Sometimes they lie so much they speak words from which their lies protrudes  without them not been conscious of the lie.

    Watch this!

” Much-touted” which simple means the much talked about Master Plan! Touted can be defined as to persuade, however, not meant: Talk about it however do nothing when we stop talking about something.

Touting ones horn is precisely what Tonge has done here. he is extravagantly publicizing this lie he knows is not intended to come to fruition.

In reality such garbage talk is nothing more than a cheap political ploy to attract the less intelligent people to rally and vote labor on promises which never materialized!

“the much-touted Tourism Master Plan”, that’s the only thing certain about this, is that it will be “much-touted” some more while Labour is in power!

“Minister of Tourism, Robert Tonga, has revealed that work on the blue print of the much-touted Tourism Master Plan will move ahead in a few months, and will reflect the government’s vision of resilience.”

Tonga, you are a fool; and I do mean you are a confounded fool!

All of the rubbish you are talking has echoed, and reverberated  across the nation before, that master plan existed before Roosevelt fit you into your puppet position, every election year for the past eighteen years we hear idiots like you evoking the master plan; you are talking nonsense.

There is nothing to the rubbish you speak except these new learnt words, “resilient” and “resilience;” which are simply defined as something which cannot bend. However if it manage to bend it will not break; nevertheless, return to its original shape and form!

If you have a method; a technology which does not exist on earth you are about to use to accomplish resilience goal, present the blue print, of one resilient…

World Creole Music Festival (WCMF), the brain child of UWP has been the greatest tourism initiative by far. DLP has been in power for 18 years and has yet to produce a tourism project to rival WCMF.

This shows the lack of vision by this administration…. it’s time for something new….they need a break.

Mr.Tonge stop talking foolishness like this on a daily basis, everyday is a promise, a promise,a promise. Eighteen years and you guys have not delivered, why should one be convinced that you can deliver in months. Man stop this foolishness and tell your master to call the election. Bunch of waste.

18 years the DLP regime has been ‘working’ on a Tourism Master Plan and you still you have nothing to show for it. Then Tonge talks about government vision regarding resilience. Robbie let me tell you something, all this government does is working and talking but it does not deliver!! As far as vision is concerned, this government has NONE. All you ministers are useless! What you doing right now with all your extra talking… you are just diverting from the main issue at hand. I’m sick and tired of your ongoing propaganda, lies and empty promises. The days of the DLP are numbered!!! You all better prepare for a crash landing.

Some of allu need to hush up allu dirty mouth. After 10 years of no progress talk still voted in an incompetent government. If people weren’t so blinded by the hand outs that making ding dang on island. Maybe every gov the people lit a fire under would say boy let me so SOMETHINGso the people of Dominica won’t vote me out. Instead thecurrent gov know they don’t have to do …. because the people love their pm. Sacway sot

    • August 20, 2018

D/can you are so right. Some people complain, but a few dollars handed to them leading up to the election and they take back the abuser, and then complain again when the abuse starts treating them like sheep. People must have the intestinal fortitude to resist the small pittance of short term gain and a return to long term pain. The pain will stop when people stop voting for them.

DNO in the future you should begin these stories with “Once upon a time, far far away”
18 years was enough time to build literally anything, a city, an empire or a tower to the heavens. This dude epitomises incompetence.

The government’s vision of resilience is to put the Dominican people completely out of their independence, where we can no longer call the shots, no longer eat what we want, we can’t pay our bills as God said our bills ought to be paid, which is by our own sweat,; we no longer have can send our children to study where we want and so on. The government’s vision of resilience is reflected in their destruction of every thing we as a nation once depended on. They killed our banana farms, they destroyed citrus and now Mr. Skerrit destroyed Ross University and caused them to run away. Yap Skerrit and his boys are resilient with our passport money but over 95% of us are in deep ….. They can talk resilient because if their foot knock they can fly out within hours and get treated. However the rest of us is we feel a headache we have to make our will.

Someone hit it right on the head there. When Maria happened businesses were looted. People showed us and the world what lack of leadership looked like. When all this was going on one particular place was heavily guarded. When food stuff was wasting Dominicans had to go spend there last dollar at that one standing establishment. While tons of food being dumped at dumps. People not seeing is wicked them man wicked. Forget party politics. Let’s put Dominica first. Tell them man what we want. Tell them we want a future for our sons and daughters. A bright and prosperous future. Not lip service and one side eating and others suffering. We want leaders who cater to all members of society. Equal opportunity equal treatment. Leaders who believe in the rule of law. Leaders who have the guts to pass laws to put term limits on prime minister and speaker of the house etc. Transparency, patriotism and love of country should be our first and foremost principles. Dominica wake up. Demand more.

I am a bit perplexed here, maybe even confused.
Minister of Tourism, Robert Tonge, has revealed that work on the blue print of the much-touted Tourism Master Plan will move ahead in a few months, and will reflect the government’s vision of resilience.
Construction will not commence in a few months, rather work on the “blue print” will move ahead in a few months.
If I understand correctly “blue print” refers to a diagram or other graphical representation, in other words a drawing. So work on the drawing will move ahead in a few months.
Keep on planning to plan, this will bring us much awaited and deserved services. SMH.

Same ole tactis over and over. It is clear the spirit of elections is high. Everytime elections are near there is always some grand scheme or plan. Men with clear vision implement plans from day one and after 18 years we should be reaping fruits. Did liat ever pay back the 8 million owed to Dominica and at what interest? What are the results of the previous investment on tourism within last 18 years? Have we seen and increase in the sector? How much GDP and economic activity have been generated vs funds invested during same period? Are we now doing a master plan because we have failed? Are you telling me the only thing theat change is the word ressilliant. Resilience is no difference from sustainable development. As a matter of fact a development plan is made sustainable by implementing ressilliant ideas and actions. All of a sudden these idiots open there eye with some rum.

I’m a Dominican citizen by birth. I’ve returned several times however I must say Dominica in time of Ms Charles was a much greater country than the dominic a that exist today. Especially post Erika. The place looks like a dump in 2013 . Anyone who defends this is out their mind. Derelict vehicles and trash on the road sides, improperly planed residential zones ( picard), trucks parked aimlessly on the road sides. Low lying bridges of course high rivers gonna wash them down. Poor management all around. And then people playing party politics with the country. All them fellas need to go jail this is criminal. Shame on all of you!

Tourism isn’t a sustainable industry. Cruise tourist spend less than tourist other tourist. The average person who visits Dominica by air or ferry will spend on average 2k to 4k on island. I’ve been here on a cruise and only manager to do 1 tour and bought 2 souvenirs. 8 hrs later we were off to the next country. Do the math.

Just do a keyword search for ” Tourism Master Plan” in DNO and you will find:
    – Dominica’s Tourism Policy and Master Plan to be reviewed (SEPTEMBER 24, 2012)
    – High hopes for Tourism Master Plan (MAY 3, 2013)….. According to this article “Draft Tourism Policy 2020 and the Tourism Master Plan 2022”

The article of August 19, 2018 says “the much-touted Tourism Master Plan will move ahead” which suggest it is the same 2022 plan

Again these guys have been there for 18 years look at the state of the economy. Believe it or not Barbados saw that game of chess with Ross and made that move. Are you all aware as to how much money the economy has lost and you all talking about international airport. But again you all are to dumb to see that.
You sit there and see these guys make millions and say nothing. One passport is 70,000 to be deposited in the treasury. explain to me what happens to the rest minus from 3,000,000. Do we have a financial unit or not.
Again i have no sympathy for you all nor Dominica. If you wondering yes i am a Dominican oh educated one too. you all have no vision. one bottle of rum and you all are fooled.

Thats all this government ever has. Plans, Programs, and Studies.

Everyday you hear of a plan or study about the same things we’ve heard plans and studies before. Nothing ever materializes into anythng. 18 years WAISTED.

In the last general elections campaign in Barbados then Leader of the Opposition described the incumbent government as a government of pronouncements with no real action. Uncanny isn”t it?

What has the government done for the last 18 years? Strategic plans for every sector of the economy should have been firmly in place after 18 years of uninterrupted rule by the DLP. Where are the master plans for Tourism, Agriculture, Fisheries, Construction, Education, Healthcare, Light Manufacturing, Service Industry, Infrastructural Development, Sports, Culture and Environment. All listed here have fallen short even when assessed by minimum standards. The governance of the country needs to be in more capable hands. The DLP has made a complete mockery of effective governance. For them, Time Is Up!
