A call for greater participation in Dominica’s annual trade show

Marketing Manager of La Flamboyant Hotel, Joseph Daway has called on more hoteliers, tour operators and travel agents to participate in Dominica’s annual  marketing trade show being  held in Martinique for the past five years.

Daway  is representing La Flamboyant Hotel this year at the two day event which is taking place at the Galleria Mall.

“There should be more hotels from Dominica and also there should be more travel agents and tour operators because they are the ones who are booking the rooms,” he said during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) on Friday.”People may go online and do it too but the travel agents are more in a convincing manner to do it.”

He said he believes that a stronger presence by travel agents could have resulted in more visitors for Dominica “but it’s left to be seen,” Daway conceded.

Nonetheless, he thinks that the event has provided much needed exposure for Dominica .

“It has been a good experience for me except that I thought I would have seen more participants including travel agents, especially because Dominica is supposed to be the main focus of the trade show,” he stated.

He said his company, La Flamboyant, has also benefited.

“I have generated some business since I have been there,” he said. “People are stopping by and getting information…”

He hopes that the activities will increase French visitor arrivals to Dominica.

Day two of the event was held on Saturday, June 4.

The initiative forms part of a marketing strategy spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority (DDA).

Other participants at the event include: The Anchorage Hotel Whale Watching and Dive Centre, Chez Ophelia, Rosalie Bay, Sunset Bay Club, Fort Young Hotel, Hummingbird Inn and Tamarind Tree Hotel.

Whilst I support mr. Daway’s efforts it has always irritated and embarrassed me that the hotel can not get the spelling of its name right. The Flamboyant, known in English as the Royal Poinciana or Flame Tree is a native of Madagascar. In French it is called Le Flamboyant (masculine) and not La Flamboyant (feminine). The least the hotel could do is correct this and avoid embarrassing questions, at least from their French guests. Thank you.
