In order to restore travel confidence to Dominica after tropical storm Erika, Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) embarked on a vigorous media mission. Over the last few months, DDA hosted a number of journalists specializing in print, digital and film to sensitize existing and new visitors with fresh press about the island.
Sean Sheehan, a freelance writer commissioned to write about Dominica for Glass Magazine, covered various aspects of Dominica’s tourism product including Segment 10 of the Waitukubuli National Trail, Emerald Pool, Boiling Lake and our signature hot springs. Circulated to 50,000 high net worth readers interested in culture, travel, fashion and beauty, Glass Magazine is published quarterly in the UK. In addition to the printed magazine there is a comprehensive website, where Dominica is currently being featured in a compelling article which boasts the island’s attractions, accommodation and cuisine. DDA also hosted Melody Wren on a press trip which produced a travel article published on November 19, 2015 in the Canadian Jewish News. Entitled “Dominica: A feast for the senses,” the article reveals the rugged beauty of Dominica’s jungles and attractions. “When I think back to the authenticity of Dominica, my body relaxes and my mind almost meditates, summing up the island perfectly,” said the author. Coincidentally, Dominica was also featured recently in The UK Sunday Express. The piece, circulated to the newspaper’s attractive readership of 361,821, revealed the wilder, more adventurous side of the Caribbean and exposed Dominica as their first port of call. Information was included on the Waitukubuli National Trail, the Valley of Desolation, whale spotting, and snorkelling. The article also listed Rosalie Bay Resort as an ideal base in the “foothills of the Morne Trois Pitons National Park” and included a package as a call to action.
Discover Dominica Authority continues to support the hosting of journalists as content produced on Dominica receives great international exposure, which should hopefully equate to an increase in visitors to our shores.
Something New DDA… something New
It’s crazy how all the other feeds have comments galore but something that actually impacts our tourism sector and island doesn’t get any notes. It’s like we are too involved in politics that we can’t see the improvements.
I know you are disappointed but you see, people are always much more interested in gore and scandal and mr. Skerrit certainly provides a lot of feed for the latter through his antics.
The efforts by DDA to put Dominica on the map in a better light fade in comparison. with that. It even gives us free press (of the wrong kind)! Imagine that, your own P.M. sabotaging positive publicity about our island through his actions and behaviour.

Stupes! Utter rubbish. You people are consumed with Skerrit. Obsessed!
You did not know Dominica has its own seahorses., did you? Well, here is the evidence. What do you mean, you can’t tell this in Dominica? Where else could it be but Dominica, don’t you recognise those legs? No, not the rider’s, the horse’s legs of course. No doubt about it. Uniquely Dominican.
Maybe if you had taken your time to read any of the lovely articles on our beautiful island, you would have seen and read about all the lovely “Uniquely Dominican” experiences.
Like you are supposed to ride a horse in water ? Let me call PETA. Abuse of animals !
