DDA seeks to lure French visitors to Dominica

The Discover Dominica Authorities (DDA) is seeking ways to lure more French visitors to the nature isle.

As part of achieving this goal Marketing Executive at the DDA, Daphne Vidal, recently visited Guadeloupe where she attended a meeting of the Caribbean Network of Jazz Festivals. The aim of the network is to provide cooperation in getting new artistes to perform at various festivals across the Caribbean.

Vidal said Dominica has begun organizing a Creole Jazz festival to be held at Fort Shirley at the Cabrits Nationals Park in Portsmouth and the purpose of the meeting was to develop relationships and forge partnerships to get visitors from Guadeloupe and the French West Indies to attend.

The festival is expected to be held in May 2012.

During the meeting Vidal sought ways of promoting Dominica in Guadeloupe by partnering with other agencies and organizations for exchanges during the Creole Jazz Festival, the World Creole Music Festival in October and other events in Dominica.

“Dominica wants to have a presence in Guadeloupe in order to entice more French visitors to come to Dominica,” she said.

Vidal also held discussions with the Executive of the Dominica Guadeloupe Association and said the DDA is in the process of developing a promotion plan for the French island in 2012 to be implemented with the assistance of the association and other contacts.

I hope that this is not an isolated thought.

It is about time that DDA and DHTA put a lot more effort into the French islands.

Luring a diver from New York is a hard task indeed and both the above have spent vast amounts trying that. However luring visitors from the islands next door is simple … with 2 ferry services already existing.

Start the New year with this new idea … advertise our lovely island in Guadeloupe and Martinique. A lot are already aware, but so many are so surprised that Dominica is not riddled with the racism and general surliness of Guadeloupe. They love it when they come.

Less spent in US and UK and more next door … it makes perfect economical sense.

By all means keep promoting DA far and wide … just spend less doing it.

If DA wants to welcome more french tourists, then the very first thing to do is to put an end to the insecurity that rattles the island so frequently.
And Dominicans must stop doing non sense in the french islands ( robberies, raping, killing, …)

The second action is to train the immigration services and the police so that they actually “welcome” visitors rather than treating them like shit just to show them that “they too have power ….”

The third action is to educate people to be clean, avoid garbage all about, rottening cars by the road, bottles of beers, juices, plastic bags, thrown anywhere, …Where is the so called “nature island” ????

Last but not least, the fact that DA is now a communist country, member of the Alba, led by the Venezuelan dictator, the fact that DA supported Gaddafi, and still supports some dictators in power, all that does frighten visitors coming from democratic countries

    Season greetings to all !

Hi, excuse my english, it’s not very good but i try to do my best.

“Dominica wants to have a presence in Guadeloupe in order to entice more French visitors to come to Dominica”

    Unfortunately
In one side, because of the presence of Dominicans having very bad behaviour, doing a lot of bad things in Guadeloupe, a lot of people don’t come to Dominica : they kill, rape, steal and go back to Dominica. They stay a few months and come back again

In the other side, the Government, Immigration Service has to do their job properly, they don’t have to do what we call in french “excès de zèle”, what means as they have the power, they do what they want, yo méchan
We have in memory the misfortune of a french woman in the jail of Dominica(you can see it on “France Antilles Guadeloupe 16 juillet 2011 Le cauchemard de deux guadeloupéens dans les geoles dominiquaises”

I agree nowhere in the world you can’t enter without a visa, the law of a countrie must be respected but they could send them back, the boat was still there, they refused and sent them in jail like murderers. Then their calvary in jail, I did not imagine Dominica had such conditions in its jails, it’s a shame : a beautiful island treating people like animals

Despite everything , Dominica is beautiful, a lot of french people come to Dominica but you have to do a lot to destroy the very bad picture a lot of french people have towards Dominica : Look the distance between Guadeloupe and Dominica, why i have paid so much to go in English countries to improve my english during my holidays, because i was afraid, i thought people in Dominica were like those of Guadeloupe and when i have met good Dominicans, i began to see Dominica differently

To finish, some words in Kréyol
Dominik bèl, i ti ni moun avan ki ja fè bon travay pou voyé kilti dominik monté, fô kontinyé
    Big fôs

If you have less than a thousand hotel rooms available on the island, and ten thousand people decide to visit!

Where are you going to housed and accommodate the thousands of people who you intend to lour to your festival?

    Food for thought Oui!

You are smart enough to know that this will never happen. Not without huge amounts of advertising and effort.

A 50% rise in what we already have is a great start.

      Small steps and great success.

Although it is obvious, it is alway better to confirm it and put it clear. This is not true.

I think you mean from the DDA or the DHTA … but no, you can go it alone.
