EDITOR’S NOTE: Contributing travel writer for Kentucky.com describes her visit to Dominica.
As journeys go, this one didn’t have the most promising beginning. Starting with a wake-up call at an ungodly hour to make my very early morning flight, it continued with a taxi driver who arrived 20 minutes ahead of schedule and then seemed miffed that I wasn’t quite ready. The climax came at the airport, when the ticket agent at the U.S. Airways counter asked me how I wanted to pay for my bag.
I explained that I was flying international and didn’t need to pay for my bag, to which he replied, “U.S. Air doesn’t consider the Caribbean international. May I see your passport, please?”
How sweet.
I am so proud to be born in this natural beauty. Let us take care of our mother…
lucky she did not get robbed, beaten or murdered, her story should be how she got in and out in one piece.
@ Makemeya/ Macoumeya / whatever:
Is that your best contribution to Dominica?
lovely country, great hiking! I’ve hiked just about every nook and cranny of Dominica before the waitukubil trail was built and proud to say that I know what my country had then and has now, and appreciate it to the fullest unlike a lot. I find that too many even young people are lazy to hike and so will never see the real beauty of our country.
oh how humble and nostalgic I feel reading this about my BEAUTIFUL DOMINICA. LONG TO BE THERE. Love you DA

very interesting story.
Q95 there is something to talk about.
its good to hear and see Dominica for what the island is ,if we could look through the eyes of a visitor sometimes and see what we have and what we tend to take for granted on a daily basis that we would stop trying to put our beautiful country down. I for one know what i have and i surely miss it everyday but i know and when i get back i will see and appreciate my country a new ….Dominicans love your country
