Discover Dominica Authority participated in a recently held Diaspora engagement event, as well as the Boston Globe Travel Show in Boston from February 7 – 9, 2014.

These initiatives, which form part of the destination’s marketing plan, fostered greater collaboration with the Dominican community residing in Boston, as well as increased awareness of the destination largely known as a haven for nature, culture and adventure.

Through the Diaspora engagement event, Discover Dominica Authority, along with approximately 25 members of the Dominican Diaspora in Boston, members from the Dominica Boston Cultural Performers, Dominica Independence Association and Dominica Heritage Society, were able to meet to discuss opportunities for their members and the Authority to partner on future activities and initiatives. This will assist in positioning Dominica’s tourism products and services more effectively, while ensuring that one consistent message is provided.

Discover Dominica Authority continues to maximize all resources at its disposal towards developing the tourism sector to ensure effective collaboration as the industry strives to attain the goal of 7 percent growth in order to attract 90,000 visitors to Dominica by 2015. The Authority’s Head of Marketing, Nikima Royer Jno. Baptiste, urged the group “to become ambassadors for Dominica. Nobody knows the Dominican story better than Dominicans. Invite your friends and colleagues to experience the unique Dominican nature, culture, and adventure. Bring a friend when coming home.”

During the course of the weekend, Dominica was also represented at the Boston Globe Travel Show where Jno. Baptiste and members of the Dominican Diaspora assisted in manning the booth in full national wear as well as engaging members of the trade, media, and the public, inviting them to experience the Nature Island of Dominica.

“During the course of the show, it was warming to meet persons that had recently been to Dominica, those that will be visiting in the future, as well as those that have Dominica on the top of their list,” said Jno. Baptiste said . “Boston has definitely demonstrated its potential for growth in assisting us to attain our increased visitation goals.”

Following up from the mission, Discover Dominica Authority will be meeting with Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) in New York, Know Your Culture in New Jersey, as well as participating in the Toronto Outdoor and Adventure Show prior.

Very good job, Discover Dominica Authority and members of the Diaspora Community promote all what is good in Dominica. Let people see what is on the other side of the globe because we have so much to offer.

Get away and leave the snow and ice for some sea and sand and hills and mountains. No where can compare. Be weary of those who can only spread hate and fear and division. These are just a handful of wannabees wishful thinkers, who believe by spreading hate, fear and violence will get them the coveted prize.

That is not who we are. We are a peaceful fun loving people and we welcome visitors especially our brothers and sisters in diaspora.

Come home; and as we say in Dominica, let your eyes boil your peas. In other words let your eyes see for yourself.

Discover Dominica authority please step aside and allowed Mr Linton and his team to lead us in that direction of promoting the Island of Doiminica. that they have already done over the past few month.
I have been looking at Discover Dominica for the past many years and they have fail to attract outsiders to come and invest in Dominica.
I do hope that team Dominica will change that mindset of these people and put the people that can bring change to the rebuilding of this bless nation.

Hope Dominicans leaving in Jersey and new York follow your steps instead of the fun raising upon fun raising that is taking place for this and that and nothing is completing like the Catholic church in Portsmouth.

You are so right. I’m reading now LIAT in serious financial trouble and had to chose between paying the lease on their planes or let wages for their workers go late. Should I book with them and risk losing my money. Man, I nervous making a reservation with them right now.
