Eight secondary schools to participate in Tourism Awareness Month activities

Eight Secondary Schools will participate in the second Tourism Youth Congress organized as part of activities for Tourism Awareness Month 2011.

Students from the Pierre Charles Secondary School, Portsmouth Secondary School, Dominica Community High School, Goodwill Secondary School, Wesley High School, Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, North East Comprehensive School, Convent High School, Dominica Grammar School and Dominica SDA Secondary School will participate in the event, carded for Thursday May 5, 2011 at the Arawak House of Culture. The event commences at 10.30 am, and is expected to be broadcast live on Kairi FM. Minister of Tourism and Legal Affairs, Honourable Ian Douglas will be in attendance.

The Tourism Youth Congress is modeled after the Tourism Congress concept used by the Caribbean Tourism Organization. In round one of the competition, students will discuss the topic “How Can Dominica Do A Better Job At Infusing Its Culture And Heritage Into The Tourism Product?” The top five winners of round 1 will progress to round 2 for discussion of the following topic: “The Waitukubuli National Trail Is A Major New Flagship Tourism Product. What Systems Should Be Put In Place For The Efficient Management Of The Trail?”

Presentations will be judged for effectiveness of delivery; organization and unity of speech; evidence and logical basis for statements; originality of thought and overall impact and impression.
