Excellence in tourism reporting award announced

Piper

In news that is sure to whet the appetite and pique the interest of any journalist currently working in Dominica, the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), has announced that the island’s top tourism journalist will receive an award in the coming year.

The announcement came from DDA CEO, Colin Piper, at an award ceremony yesterday, to end Tourism Awareness Month. Piper said that the award for Excellence in Tourism Reporting is in appreciation of the role the press plays in the promotion of Dominica’s tourism product.

Piper stated, “This award is being established to give a forum to a group of professionals, who whilst not members of our industry, have collectively become a force in helping shape Dominica’s tourism. Through their work over the years, the press have become witnesses and biographers of our industry’s work and actions.”

He added, “This program is open to journalists in print, radio, television and internet outlets in Dominica.”

Piper outlined the criteria on which the award will be judged, which include originality of subject, quality of research, creativity in writing and presentation and the ability to relate tourism to  social, economic and/or environmental issues and the potential impact on the public and policy makers.

the prize should be a trip to cover a major regional or international tourist event which Dominica participates in,
