German journalists receive CTO awards for features on Dominica

One of the journalists recieving his award

Dominica was recently recognized with two travel writing awards as a result of hosting two German journalists last year.

The Discover Dominica Authority participated at the ITB Trade Show in Berlin, Germany, from Mar. 9 – 13, 2011. The event is the world’s largest international travel trade fair. During Caribbean Day at ITB on Mar. 13, the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) hosted its second Media Awards ceremony to recognize the support of the German media. A number of journalists attended the ceremony as this moment is very important to them and the work that they produce about the various destinations that they visit.

Mr. Schumann Dietmar of ZDF TV received the award for best TV-broadcast. The film crew visited Dominica for a feature on the island’s culture, attractions and music. The DDA introduced the crew to the hospitality and history of the Kalinago people, the music of Michele Henderson live in concert and the various attractions throughout the island.

The second award, for online-media, was presented to Martin Cyris of Spiegel Online.  While on island, Cyris explored historic sites, attractions, hikes and cultural activities with special concentration on the Kalinago.

Mr. Colin Piper, CEO/Director of Tourism, Discover Dominica Authority, was present at the ceremony and commented, “We, the people of Dominica, are pleased to have such great articles and segments written about the destination that they are recognized at events of this magnitude. Through the eyes of the journalists, Dominica’s abundant beauty and culture is revealed and the audiences are able to imagine the possibilities of being on the Nature Island. We trust that through the many DDA efforts we will continue to increase visitors to the island for the benefit of the service providers within the tourism industry and the people of Dominica in general.”

The Discover Dominica Authority continues to work with journalists, travel agents and tour operators in its various overseas markets to ensure that the island receives as much exposure as possible with the goal of attracting visitors to the island.

Elizabeth Wayland, Head of Marketing, Discover Dominica Authority, further stated,  “Service providers and destination partners play a vital role in the quality of the journalist and visitor experiences. We would like to thank them for their outstanding service and encourage them to continue to support our partnership in ensuring that Dominica is the destination of choice for any Caribbean vacation.”

Lennox is no journalist. He is just a bias man singing for his supper, hoping that one day his party will win an election and they will make him Minister of Information. What a day that will be. In the meantime he continue to wallow in his own filth that he spreads on Q95.

    Danke Herr Dietmar.

I have been speaking to the Minister of Tourism for years about marketing in Germany. This is the biggest market for tourism in the world and one of the most eco friendly countries.

It is brilliant that the Jounalist has given us a chance to enter this market. I hope the minister of tourism and the DDA takes advantage of the free opening.

What utter rot! But just to please you, the courts will give him all the awards he needs: $64,00.00 X 2 and counting.
I hope he does not cwayvay from the weight of all the other awards he will get from that source.

I never comment on politics but the way he goes about doing things is just absolutely out of order. He is a news reporter so he should report facts and try to be unbiased. He wants to be a politician so he should give up reporting and do that. The means he uses are absolutely ludicrous. It’s shameful journalism
