Human resource a top priority for Tourism Ministry in 2018-2019 National Budget

Tourism Minister Robert Tonge

Minister for Tourism Senator Robert Tonge has said that his ministry will place Human Resource as one of the top priorities in the 2018-2019 National Budget.

He was speaking during the closing ceremony of a tourism training workshop held at the Prevost Cinemall on Thursday.

“I remember when I first came into Tourism – we had four pillars, the four important things, the first one we had was marketing, then access, then sites and the last one was human resource but I realized that the most important thing is the people,” he said. “So when you hear me speak next week when it comes to the whole issue of Parliament and budget, I will be putting Human Resource as the first pillar because you are the most important people.”

Tonge continued, “And that is why we are having all this training.”

According to him, more training should be organized for those in the tourism industry.

“We cannot force them to come but eventually what the others are going to see, they are going to say, ‘who are the people that are succeeding in this tourism business…?’” Tonge stated. “And they will now wonder what is different about that person.”

He went on to say that these people will realize that those who have been going to as many training as possible are the ones that are most knowledgeable.

The 2018-2019 National Budget is expected to be presented by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Roosevelt Skerrit on Wednesday, July 25th.

These Ministers talk a set of Rubbish. How can you place ( Human Resource as one of the top priorities) when it suppose to be one of the most important part of the daily functions.

People are not coming to dominica to meet hospitable tourism personel. They are visiting dominica to enjoy a product and seek investment opportunity. Yes, people must be trained to drive a car, but it must drive for them to be useful. Develop your product by providing investment incentives towards potential investors, and give people a relaxing experience. Its too cramped up for foreigners who are accustomed to large spaces to enjoy long lineups, and food that feels like a snack for a pound off their pockets. Filthy beaches with fishing nets in bathing areas, and not a true caribbean experience in a beach bar with a cold exotic drink, some caribbean music, and fun activities close to the dock..

It’s truly mind boggling that a naturally picturesque island as Dominica is dead last in tourist arrivals among the OECS countries. Only poor, uninspiring, rudderless leadership can account for this abysmal performance. The frightening thing is the government ‘s ability to fix the myriad of problems. The hopeful thing is general elections are nigh. People, flog this obnoxious, delinquent party out of office with your votes.

Is this man serious?? Tonge pay out the insurance claims that you owe to people for month now so they can fix their houses. That way you put human resources first.
