Preparations to celebrate Tourism Awareness Month underway

PRESS RELEASE: The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) in collaboration with the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association and Ministry of Tourism will be celebrating Tourism Awareness Month in May 2010.

This will be held under the banner Tourism is everybody’s business, let’s play our part.  The ultimate objective of the month long celebration is to increase public awareness of the tourism and hospitality industry’s economic, cultural, and social contributions to our Nature Isle, Dominica.

The month of activities is expected to kick off with the Media Launch and Awards ceremony on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Fort Young Hotel. The ceremony will launch the month’s calendar of events and will recognize individuals and organizations who have made a valiant contribution towards tourism development in Dominica. Awards will be presented in following categories:

    Tour guide of the Year
    Tourism Vendor of the Year
    Industry Employee of the Year
    Community Tourism Development
    Accommodation of the Year ; and
    Responsible Tourism

The major activities of the month will include Creole and All That Jazz, Health and Wellness Symposium, Hike Fest, Culture Spectacular and Clean Up and Quiet Down Campaign.

Tourism Awareness Month is an annual event which has been celebrated in May for the past three (3) years by the Discover Dominica Authority.

    If tourism is everybody,s business, why just a few people at Fort Young? Why not have it in the Gardens where much more people can take part.
