
Discover Dominica Authority and the Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs on Wednesday night awarded various individuals and organisations for their efforts toward the development of the tourism industry on the island.
The Chronicle reporter Kirshena Joseph was awarded the Media Recognition Award for the Overall Best Feature with her article “Underwater Paradise!” The article which was published in the March 22nd, 2013 publication of the Chronicle vividly described diving in Dominica. Joseph also won this award in 2012.
The Director’s Award was awarded to Andrew “Cobra” O’Brien for his contribution to the development of Dominica’s yachting sector.
Secret Bay, located in Picard Portsmouth received the award for Accommodation of the year while Picard Beach Cottage was awarded for Responsible Tourism for their environment friendly initiatives.
The Wotten Waven Development Committee received an award for Community Development while Rave Ltd, Wacky Rollers, walked away with the award for Tour Operator of the Year.
Oris Campbell was awarded for excellence in Tourism Taxi Service; souvenir vendor Julietta Wade received the award for Tourism Vendor of the Year.
The Employee of the Year Award was bestowed upon Blanche Rodney, a room attendant at the Picard Beach Cottage while Louisana Burton an employee of the Wacky Rollers was awarded Tour Guide of the year.
The ceremony kicked of celebrations for the 2013 Tourism Awareness Month.
