Tropical wave has low chance of developing but residents advised to remain vigilant

A tropical wave currently east of the Lesser Antilles, maintains a low chance of development over the next five days, according to today’s 12:00 p.m. weather advisory from the Dominica Meteorological Service. However, weather officials are advising residents to remain vigilant over the next few days and to keep updated on the progress of this tropical wave.

Instability ahead of this tropical wave will continue to produce cloudiness, scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms across the Windward Islands during this afternoon. Thereafter, during tonight and throughout Monday, the activity is projected to begin moving northwards across the remainder of the island chain, including Dominica.

People in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should exercise caution mainly from tonight.

Meanwhile a high pressure system will remain dominant across the northern portion of the island chain during today.

Moderate seas are expected during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 8.0 feet. Small craft operators and sea bathers, particularly on the east coast, should exercise caution.
