The Dominica Meteorological Service is reporting that another tropical wave could affect Dominica and the Lesser Antilles later this week.
The tropical wave is projected to move across the area by Thursday night into Friday.
According to the 12:00 pm weather advisory from the Met Office, a high pressure system has established itself across the area resulting in a reduction in shower activity. However, patches of low level clouds moving with the wind flow could result in occasional cloudiness and a few passing showers during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, residents are advised to monitor the progress of another vigorous tropical wave located over the far Eastern Atlantic which should approach the Lesser Antilles by the beginning of next week.
The system currently has a low chance of development over the next 48 hours and a medium chance of development over the next five days.
Moderate seas are expected during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 7.0 feet.
The news release is reporting that:
“…Another Tropical wave projected to affect Dominica and Lesser Antilles by Thursday…The tropical wave is projected to move across the area by Thursday night into Friday.”
However, this information is at odds with the Met. Office prediction and National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory:
“A broad area of shower and thunderstorm activity is associated with
a tropical wave located several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo
Verde Islands. Little to no development of the wave is expected for
the next few days while it moves westward across the eastern and
central tropical Atlantic Ocean at about 15 mph. Environmental
conditions are forecast to become more conducive for development
over the weekend and a tropical depression could form by early next
week several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
ADMIN: Thank you for looking out for us, but the latest advisory valid from 6:00pm also confirms the headline “By Thursday night into Friday, another tropical wave is projected to move across the area.” http://www.weather.gov.dm/forecast
Thank you Admin.
Weather forecasting is not an exact science and the latest advisory may be correct and I may be wrong.
My concern is that we interpret weather patterns without becoming paranoid – as we have tended to do since Erica and since “climate change” became a buzz word.
While I agree that it is better to be safe than sorry, too many false alarms encourage indifference when the real thing comes along.
Mr Burnette, with all do respect you maybe a little confused. We are talking about 2 systems here. There is this small wave that is projected to pass Thursday night into Friday, then there is another one out in the Atlantic that may or may not develope into something more, the latter is projected to reach the islands by next week. Hope this clears things up.
Thank you for your response Ivenia.
May I suggest that the announcement itself was “a little confused”.
