General Secretary of Dominica’s newest political party, Team Unity Dominica (TUD), Alex Bruno says that they’ve identified at least six candidates who shall contest the next general election under the TUD banner.
Bruno’s comments came at the party’s official launch over the weekend in Calibishie, where he announced that his party will not be contesting all 21 seats, but enough to “win as an individual entity.”
“We will present our plan for Dominica that cannot wait. The sooner election is called our entire team of candidates will be declared, maybe with our leader. Probably, the leader might be declared before,” he told those gathered.
A few days before TUD’s official launch, Bruno confidently told the press that his party is ready for the next election cycle “with a full organization, ready to run enough seats to win the general elections as a movement. We think that we are ready to form the government.”
Speaking at Sunday’s event, Bruno revealed that the “fully established” political entity which aims to harmonize all efforts geared at promoting the common good of all, will only require two terms in office “to lay out the foundation for an inclusive Dominica agenda.”
He stressed that his party respects the former leaders of Dominica and the present Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, but according to Bruno, Skerrit must be challenged and replaced with a new leader.
“Enough is enough of one leader of a country going over 20 years, and there is no one here or those who will go against this statement,” the political scientist declared. “We will love our prime minister, but we love Dominica more. Let him take a break; he is tired. Give TUD a chance and maybe he can return in 10 or 15 years. He is still young.”
Bruno assured the public that this new movement is not a splinter from any other party, but instead, one which plans to unite, organize, and strategize around a progressive electoral agenda on the terms of the people.
He said TUD is not an alternative but a movement of urgent necessity to address a compelling interest in favour of all the people.
“The urgency of this demands that we replace the prolonged partisan incumbency on both sides of the divide–both the majority and the minority–the urgency of now asks that we remove that dead weight, which stands in the way of meaningful people’s progress,” Bruno declared.
The Calibishie native said that if elected their first policy declaration shall be on youth empowerment, housing, and wealth acquisition.
He adds that TUD is committed to the ideology of people’s success and a sense of Dominican collectivism by rejecting any forms of divisive extremism, radical attention, and gutter politics.
According to Bruno, the “best and probably the only progressive way forward for our lovely people on our beautiful island, Dominica, is to unite.”
He noted that there must be a solid message of unity, a serious campaign, and a robust strategy to effect a people-driven campaign.
“We are here with a message. We intend to propose a series of strategies that could be used to effectively execute that message. We are here to launch our campaign,” he stated.
Bruno issued a call to the Dominican electorate to take responsibility for the state of affairs, and challenge the leaders to do better for the people.
He suggested that instead of pointing fingers, the people should unite for the protection of the country.
“Let us respond to the call for unity of our people, and the duty of the proud flag of our country and the National emblems that go with it. We must do so now because we have no time to spare,” Bruno pleaded.
He said within the upcoming weeks, the party will traverse the length and breadth of Dominica to meet the people and will present their mini-manifesto to members of the public.

When two or more companies decide to share information and agree on a strategy to stifle competition this is a criminal act called collusion. When found out they are made to pay stiff fines and according to the matter some people end up in jail. I’m sure that Alex is aware of this, even if the double doctorate dude might not. Alex and the APP told us that they were working with the DLP before the crashing of the APP, therefore what would prevent the TUD with the same Alex Bruno as it’s brains from colluding with Roosevelt and the DLP to ensure the status quo remains whilst Alex gets what he so badly craves, political power. His political science education means nothing if he can’t see that dividing up the opposition votes between more parties is not going to help remove Labor party from office. Alex should have chosen the acronym PIP for his new party, meaning “party in power” with the collusion that’s so obvious. Alex you are better than that.
