Two assisting police investigations into fatal shooting in Roseau

Blood splattered on the pavement from the victim of shooting in Roseau done in broad day light

Police have said two men are currently in police custody assisting them with their investigation into the shooting death of a man from Grand Bay.

According to Police PRO, Sergeant Simon Edwards, the incident occurred at 9:20 am, Wednesday, on Kennedy Avenue, at the intersection of Kings Lane, in Roseau.

“Esron Roberts, adult male of Montine, Grand Bay, received two gunshot wounds, one to the face and the other to his leg. He was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department at the Princess Margaret Hospital where he was treated and subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor. The body of Esron Roberts was brought to the Lyndhurst Funeral Home. Two male individuals are assisting the police with their investigations,” Edwards reported.

A large crowd which quickly gathered at the scene was kept at bay by a police cordon

I think that the police should ask clear harbor located in town to take a look at there cameras that a place outside to see if they are able to discover any information pertaining to the incident.

I think the police should take a look at clear harbor(located in town) cameras because there is a camera facing down that street that may be able to pick up some sort of information pertaining to the incident.

I have long suggested that we need to add cameras to the streets of Roseau, to serve as a deterrent to criminal activity. No one will be punished for this. Whomever the criminals are, they will be freed on some legal technicality to go out and kill again. Welcome to the next level. Murder in the streets in broad day light. I don’t know why we have not reinstated “Death by Hanging.” It’s long overdue. Hang these bastards!

Guns are the weapons of choice of these criminals. None is manufactured in Dominica. It means all illicit guns and ammunitions are imported. It also means they are coming through the air and sea ports and the porous borders. Law enforcement needs to gather the requisite intelligence and seal these loopholes. There are several incidents in recent times where citizens are gunned down in board daylight. This trend is dreadfully worrisome. We must demand more from our government and civil society (all citizens) should offer a helping hand.

More than any other area this one sure demands a frequent police presence because it is no doubt the busiest commercial area in Dominica. In fact I have seen many crimes in that very area where persons would just grab peoples purse and run. I am not by any means suggesting that police should be on every street or police should be there at all times but definitely there needs an armed police presence patrolling the area on a very regular basis. Sometimes you are there for an entire day without seeing an armed officer around except at times you see two unarmed officers walking with their book to write tickets to motorists and yet not a constant practice. To talk about NY is foolishness because I know about NY and police presence. If criminals know there is a police presence they will think twice b4 they act because they would know that when they try to run they might run into armed police officers

@jen, Alas, ???????? and others, I realize you guys are competing with me to earn my name but you need to come better than that. First of all I never said that a police officer should be on every corner. 2. I never said that if officers were there that crime would not have happened. What I did say is A; known police presence would have criminals to think twice B. Here is a copy and paste of what I said ” I am not saying in another country the crime would not be committed because people that don’t value life will do anything. However, in another country he would have to think twice and would most likely be shot dead or wounded.” By the way, I am in Roseau everyday and just last week I and a former police officer were asking why is that very are doesn’t have a police presence because of it’s busy traffic with Whitchurch, Flow, Courts, First Caribbean Bank, the Prevost Cinemall and other small businesses. The Ex officer knows himself and will confirm that I raised that concern

What a perfect name. Your comment is not true because there is no country or Island in the world that can afford to put a policeman on every street corner. That is not possible financially and there is no police force that can afford to hire this many policemen. Violent deaths does occur even in front of the police or video cameras and no country is immune to this type of behavior.
People in Dominica believe that terrible things should happen every place else and not in Dominica come on. The problem is some people do not value their life nor do they value others and before if someone offends you then you would fight today we are living in different times and unfortunately the gun is the weapon of choice.

Violent crime will happen and we can’t stop it. I agree that some people don’t value life but some of these incidents start with idle hands. I have seen examples where murder was every day and with a change of attitude from the police and an injection of jobs reduce there was a major reduction in violence. We are losing businesses in Dominica and with that more people become idle. This affects male, female, old and young. If there are no jobs crime will increase.

In time I am hoping for change be it UWP, DLP or DFP. I am not asking for hand outs but for making the climate in Dominica interesting to investors. We are in the center of the OECS but yet we have no major investment which can distribute services to the other islands, whereas the other islands have. Time for us as a people to evolve.

I don’t think the guy was saying “on every corner”…WHY IS EVERY-BODY SO DEFENSIVE?? I understand what the man says perfectly. We cannot just give-up and say “nobody cannot stop them ting”..that is us being lazy and unimaginative. The guy was simply saying ” POLICE SHOULD PATROL IN THE BUSIEST PLACES OF BUSINESS MORE FREQUENT THAN PLACES WHERE THERE IS NO BUSINESS” and if that doesn’t make sense then something really wrong with the country.

@Jen “Violent deaths does occur even in front of the police or video cameras and no country is immune to this type of behavior.

Nobody said about immune it’s called “DETERRENTS”> If 10 people set out to do a crime maybe the camera will deter at least 1. The point is crime cannot be stopped but we can atleast try to mitigate it.

That guy that made the suggestion for more patrol in busy areas. RECEIVES A “THUMBS-UP” for.

All u dominicans always know what that wouldn’t work. WELL SUGGEST SOMETHING THAT CAN and STOP MAKING…

Boy you know idiots like peeping Tom and others getting me upset. What they giving kudos to the police for? For failing to protect citizens? Man at 9:39 am a criminal could walk into Roseau the capital, with a loaded gun, mask his face and go and kill a young man knowing there is no police presence, armed or not so he could think twice and all the police said is two young men assisting them with investigation and you guys giving the police kudos. Man you guys are acting like puss in boots. I am not saying in another country the crime would not be committed because people that don’t value life will do anything. However, in another country he would have to think twice and would most likely be shot dead or wounded. It’s time for people to feel safe man in a slow country like da, where everybody knows everyone

You are perfect for the job! Which one – for being able to protect the citizens! You would be everywhere, at one time or you would have enough men all over at every street corner. I recommend you for Chief responsible for the protection of the Citizens. I am sure you would have prevented the crime and many others.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I live in New York and with the thousands of police always on patrol criminals walk up to people in broad daylight and shoot them dead. These guys just don’t care. What we need to do is stop encouraging the negative behaviour that we observe in the from small. I don’t believe people are born that way . we nurture them into criminals.

We need to crack down on these unlicensed guns on the island and find constructive ways to address the problem of gun violence to ensure a safer and happier island.

Where are the radio and television programs of before that would highlight social ills and remedies through panel discussions and community outreach/town hall events?

Has everything gone to Facebook now? Well hurricane maria happened on the ground. Not on Facebook. Ross left the ground on Dominica. Not Facebook.

Real life is still happening on the ground. Real Life is not happening on Facebook. Let’s deal with the pressing issues happening on the GROUND.
