Two regional airlines offer travel discounts for Jazz ‘n Creole

Letang is Marketing Excecutive at Discover Dominica Authority

LIAT and Winair have partnered with the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) in offering travel discounts for the upcoming Jazz n’ Creole Festival.

Marketing Executive of Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) Samantha Letang made the announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.

“The partnership with LIAT has borne fruit and LIAT has given a 20 percent discount on all airfares and for persons travelling to Dominica for Jazz n’ Creole 2019. So, this is a real commandment on LIAT’s part ensuring that Jazz n’ Creole is supported and we encourage persons to quickly book,” Letang stated.

According to Letang, Friday, 5th April was the starting date for bookings for the discounted airfare and the travel dates for persons with discounted tickets are May 2nd to the 7th for the main stage event.

The main stage event for this year’s Jazz ‘n Creole will be held from May 3rd to the 5th at Fort Shirley at the Cabrits.

Those who plan to visit for the event are being asked to log on to liat.com for terms and conditions and to book the flights.

“Any other information you can log on to dominicafestivals.com for that information,” Letang said.

Meantime, she added that Winair has also come on board for support of the Dominica Jazz n’ Creole Festival this year for only US$280 round trip.

“Persons can book Winair and come and enjoy themselves…,”she said. “Make reservations via their sales office at reservations at flywinair.com

Letang said travel dates are from May 1st to the 7th and booking dates started on Tuesday 9th April.

“So today you can start booking until the end of April,” she advised.

How cheap is a flight from Pureto  Rico to Dominica costing over four hundred dollars: Is that in US, or EC currency?

    That is madness!
Fares starts today: Apr 11, 2019 at 10:20:07 AM. However; note they are subject to change.

Fares are round trip. Fares include all fuel surcharges, our service fees and taxes. Displayed fares are based on historical data, are subject to change and cannot be guaranteed at the time of booking.

Let me follow up by saying the quotes might be for both LIAT and Winair.

Now they are talking about a festival in Dominica; so if a European, or native Dominican resides in Europe, wish to travel to Dominica, that mean they would have to fly to Pureto Rico and then to Dominica on one of the two commuter  aircraft.

      How expensive would that be?

Let us remember, there might not be any flights out of a European city direct to Pureto Rico, at least I don’t know of any, so that means the person would have to fly from Europe to some city in the America, connecting with an American flight to Pureto Rico.

Now if we had an International Airport in Dominica, a flight from France to Dominica be no longer than six hours, Germany and  to Dominica would talk about 8.5 hours, from New York less than three hours.

From Los Angeles, to Dominica the flight last a little over six hours.

      Where is Dominica’s International Airport?

Europeans wishing to travel to Dominica can do so with same day conection via Antigua (BA or Virgin) from London Gatwick, via Barbados or St. Lucia, using the same carriers but this routing is likely to involve an overnight stay, plus taxi fare and possible ferry connection in the case of St.Lucia.
From Amsterdam or Paris via St. Maarten, Guadeloupe or Martinique (KLM/Air France, AirCaraibe). Again, necessitating overnight stays and probably onward ferry
connection. I believe the BA flight provides the only same
day connection at present (Liat) but will cost you approx. U.S.$.240 extra for the Antigua Dominica leg on top of ,the London Antiugua one. It is expensive, cumbersome and time consuming to travel from a major European city to Dominica.

Wow, another super achievement. Mediocrity is rife in Skerrits Dominica.

Right now Skerrit should pay for all flights to Dominica, just as Haitians are getting free fights to Dominica because they have somebody paying for them. But the expose of the Haitian plane crash we had no doubt got people scared of coming here, so as an incentive, Skerrit should just pay for all flights. But even if is a free ticket people will still be afraid to fly to DA Wii.

Just last month LIAT was in financial difficulty and was on the bed of bankruptcy while clinching for survival.

To the point they were asking Caribbean GOVTs to inject Millions and with a month they are able to give 20% discount on flights to Dominica for JAZZ & CREOLE.

The stakeholders have to be concerned about financial prudence of LIAT because this is a badly run entity.

She does not say from where that U.S.$. 280 flight will take me to Dominica and back. That is still a lot of money. Is DDA subsidising that fare or can people not going to the festival also take advantage of it at the same time.?

Good news but…..we talking about the Skerrit and Melissa airport that is not climate resilient, though millions were duped on it recently. Look see the confusion that took place on Tuesday when the plane crash landed. People were stranded in Dominica, in Barbados, Antigua and every airport that has flights to Dominica. So am I going to take a chance to buy tickets to DA and when flights are cancelled or delayed I cannot get my money back? On top of that the crash of “Sky High” was an eye opener as it showed how unprepared we are to deal with an emergency since Skerrit felt the best thing to do was to demolish a hospital that was less than 5 miles from the airport and no real close health center nearby. Skerrit sure caused me to be afraid of the airport to the point that I am thinking of using boats to and from Dominica, like in the days of Christopher Columbus, since that’s how far back Skerrit brought us.
