UPDATE: Category 5 Hurricane Dorian pounds the Bahamas with 185 mph winds

A catastrophic Category 5 Hurricane Dorian is pounding the Bahamas with 185 mph sustained winds and gusts over 220 mph after making its first landfall at 12:40 p.m. Sunday at Elbow Cay, Abacos.

At about 2 p.m., Dorian’s “extremely distinct eye” made its second landfall on Great Abaco Island near Marsh Harbour as it “headed with all its fury toward Grand Bahama” at a westward clip of 7 mph, the NHC said.

“This is tied for the strongest Atlantic hurricane landfall on record with the 1935 Labor Day hurricane,” the NHC said. The monster storm ripped off roofs and tore down power lines in the Bahamas as hundreds hunkered in schools, churches and other shelters.

Latest reports indicate that the Bahamas could experience hurricane conditions for the next several hours.

Below are videos of the stories of some Bahamians who have been affected by the monster storm.

Please join us in praying for the people of the Bahamas.

Heartbreaking. I hope we have not forgotten how terrible Hurricane Maria was for us and the assistance we received in time of need. I certainly hope we will be “big enough” to put politics aside and see the desperation of our brothers and sisters in need. Please take a minute to say a prayer for those who have suffered or are in harm’s way.

Oh yes.. prayers are certainly needed in that situation…
I went through a cat 5 for 6 hours and it felt like 6 days I can’t imagine a cat 5 sitting overhead for 24 hours,1 day, and just pounding. That’s what these folks are going through…
LORD HAVE MERCY. YOU ARE THE GOD THAT SPEAK TO THE STORM,INSTRUCT IT TO BE STILL,YOU DID IT BACK THEN AND YOU CAN DO IT TODAY..
    AMEN..

We will pray for all who are dealing with this hurricane. May there be no loss of life and no injuries. May it pass as soon as possible. May God give everyone strength.
