UPDATE: DNO Comments Rating Feature

DNO wishes to reassure readers that efforts are continuing to find an appropriate plugin to restore the comments rating feature. However, it is taking a little longer than expected to find exactly what we need. In the meantime, DNO is interested in hearing how you, our readers, feel about the comment rating feature and we are providing the opportunity for you to express your view in this poll.

Do you think the thumbs up/down feature contributes positively to the comments on DNO?

    DNO Admin:

You lose some and you win some. I reside in Toronto. I apprise others in Toronto and elsewhere of the happenings in Dominica and encourage them to access your Website. I also gave them your Website address.
In time, those thumbs up and down may deter some people from commenting because some of those who give them are not fair. Ensure that you maintain realistic, broadminded and educated ones who comment on this Website that others might learn from them. This is the primary reason of opinions and responses.

@ so-called Simply blessed but not blest at all

If you read this, most people criticize others about their English on this Website. There are times I will not be patient because those who criticize me do not write proper English which means they do not speak proper English and have projected that they are not educated. Do not be a hypocrite because you would react in the same manner.
A person should be known by what they state and by what they write even though we do not know them. Intelligent people know this.
You do not know my educational, job status and expertise. My writing should be enough for you to fathom this. I did not attend school and higher learning for nothing also based on my experience. I will not appease you and make you smarter.

DNO, thumbs down to this poll.

You are increasingly making us more suspicious of the absence of the comments rating feature. We trusted that your website was infected by a virus and you were doing everything to restore the feature. However, we are beginning to question your motive, as it would seem that a more conscious decision is being made as to whether to return the feature. For the benefit of DNO itself, please bring back the feature at the earliest.

The thumps-up/down feature is a standard feature on every website of that kind. To delete it would be equivalent to removing all talk shows from our airwaves that allows the public to vent respectfully without writing an essay like Roseau Valley does- it is simply ludicrous.

On that note, I wish to suggest that DNO use the available technology to limit the length of contributions to no more than 300-350 words in order to control the length of the contributions of bloggers like Roseau Valley. The available technology will not allow the statement to be posted if it is too lengthy and one would not have to wait to see if DNO will not publish a comment because of its length.

With that technology in place, DNO would not have to take so long to review/post comments-especially those posted on Saturdays and Sundays.

    Respectfully
    Roseau Valley

Cease bothering DNO with your thumbs up and down advice. Not everyone shares your views. There are those who give specifically thumbs down and even thumbs up are not fair in their rating.
There are times the comments are not meant to be long but that as one writes, the imagination expands and to make their comments more explicit rather than ‘a one or two-liner’, the latter which occasionally provide no sense, explanation and educational purpose. You must comprehend that some of those who comment are not of the same mind, education and expertise. Broadmindedness is required.

wah happen, DNO just want to remove thumbs up, thumbs down or what? Which major website for commentaries doesn’t have comment ratings?

it tells you where people’s minds are, if they think a like, what kind of thinking makes them tick.
plus if you dont want to comment, you just thumb up or down

When some people comment sensibly and that others might learn something from, there are those who give thumbs down. They do not deserve it.
There are those who take pride, maliciously at that to give others thumbs down.
Personally, thumbs up and down are a good idea but some people spoil the purpose of them. Why give thumbs down when the comment is sensible? Whereas some thumbs up are not.

Garçon just vote and doh Comment nuh if you doh have something sensible to say,,,

Just because you have a twisted way of analyzing thine opine doesn’t mean All Marn and WhoMarn have to agree with you!!!

      • October 22, 2012

        @Rastar-Marn

“Justice and Truth” is famne’ not a “garson” I know because we have exchange kindly conversations with each–that was she chosed to be a nice person. We both live in Toronto!

Besdes, I don’t think that there is “man” who would write with the sentiment and the “vocabulary structure” of Justcie and Truth–good heavens!

Nonetheless I agree with her. I voted to leave the comments rating off–due to the fact that so many of us ignore the “news article” and its writer, as we go into the hundreds, posting comments for the sake of the ratings–I don’t see the point in doing that

DNO if you look carefully you will realise that since the exit of this interactive feature the average comments inputs have diminished.

So be it. You should note that some people have nothing constructive to state; some total foolishness. They make some people on this Website state that where are the educate Dominica people? Some of them use this Website to attack and harass their own fellow people directly for their beliefs and in an evil manner.
DNO should not worry about that. Everything should be done for educational purposes and not for vindictiveness.

The feature is important for public evaluation, the reading public has grown used to the feature. I wish it would be restored soon…..very soon that is.

Admin: We appreciate your intelligent and reasoned comment. We assure you that every effort is being made to find an appropriate plugin for the comment rating feature. The first one was malfunctioning to the extent that it was re-directing readers logging-in to DNO to other sites. We are seeking a proper replacement to ensure that the problem does not reoccur. Thanks for your patience.

Generally, we have grown accustomed to many things and when they are changed, we have no alternative to grow accustomed to them. I am certain you and I could cite many such matters.
You know what? I already grew accustomed to it. The idea of this Website comments is that users provide their comments and respectfully. Thumbs up and down is not the primary reason for it. How much can we learn from this?
I prefer comments so that I could provide mine, hopefully amicably as a respectable dialogue, sharing opinions with my fellow Dominicans wherever they may reside, that we may learn something from each other. This is/should be the purpose of responding.

  12. Question
    October 20, 2012

There was nothing wrong with the rating feature. It managed to convey the how people in general felt about a comment. Why can’t people leave things alone. It wasn’t broken to start with.

Admin: If we had left the faulty comments rating plugin in place, it would have prevented a number of readers from effectively logging in to DNO. They were being re-directed to other sites. That was an urgent problem which had to be addressed by disabling the plugin. We are now genuinely and actively seeking a proper replacement. We ask for your patience.

Tell them to get an Internet Security Provider for their computer. This may be a deterrent to help them not to be re-directed to another Website.

Read your comment again. Does it make sense? Poor English. The last time I wrote about thumbs up and down, this is what I meant that some people give thumbs down for the sake of doing so and are vindictive about what others write.
You are one of those who probably love giving thumbs down without properly reading, patiently and comprehending what is written. These are they who rate people, the educated who speak and write proper English. Comprendez?
