Former Dominica Labour Party representative for the Petite Savanne constituency, Urban Baron, has been given the nod to contest that constituency for the United Workers Party (UWP) in the next general election.
Baron was elected at a meeting of the UWP Petite Savanne constituency association which was held at Petite Savanne on Friday afternoon. He beat his only opponent, former Miss Dominica, Giesel Francis by a vote of 27 – 6.
A source close to Baron told Dominica News Online that Francis committed to giving him the full support.
Baron’s nomination now has to be ratified by the UWP hierarchy.
He will face DLP incumbent, Dr. Kenneth Darroux in the next general election.
All the talk about uneducated ministers started with UWP attack on Mr Baron …. Now that the UWP team is officially the Uneducated Workes Party……Mr Baron is ‘appropriate for office’… YEAH…..

To save Dominica from what? Remember that it was the IMF and world bank who indicated that Dominica had made great strides in decreasing poverty and unemployment. Dominica is now ranked #8 of the top ten wealthiest nations in the caribbean. In 2009 the majority of Dominican agreed with this asessment by giving them a landslide victory in the polls.

With the emergence of Linton as leader of the UNITED WORKERS PARTY, what i have seen is a steady defection of people from the Labour Party to what is sometimes called ‘Team Dominica’ or the UNITED WORKERS PARTY.Bearing in mind that UWPites are hardly ,if at all defecting to Labout. THIS IS SERIOUS!!!! The reasones can be ascribed to the QUALITY OF CANDIDATES the UWP has been able to attract, their pontifications of massive corruption in the Labour Party, their promise of jobs,airport,ferry service and accountability in government,ALL OF WHICH RESONATES WELL WITH MANY VOTERS.I laud their “”” 21 in 25 days tour of dominica. I can see that the Labour camp in its effort to get to the finish line first, have been doing what they have done for years. Promising to have projects upon project done and promised to be done. Launching personal attacks on candidates of the opposition party, STILL REFUSING TO DEBATE, at times showing their inability to understand the English Language. The preposterous statement made by Blackmore re dabates is testimony to this fact, doling out of money, etc,etc,. As to whether it works this time is left to be seen!
So the battle is on, it has not intensified yet, but to all and sundry the Skerrit Labour party is in an intense battle, and the opposition is not willing to be on the defensive.
At this time UWPites must be thanking Skerrit himself for INVITING LINTON INTO THE RING,and thanking Linton FOR ACCEPTING THE CHALLENGE.

But in my humble opinion this seat may just go back the UWP, because it seems overall his humility has carried him through.

Democracy can be very stupid and undemocratic. Sometimes allowing the people the privilege to choose for themselves can end up disastrous. Who in their right mind would ever think that the people would choose Baron over Giselle? Regardless of whether Giselle lives in the area or not.

Thats what you think, there could never be a move more right, I am from Tesavanne, I’m on the ground, Baron has always been there for us, even since he left the cabal. There are only two hamlets that Doc have control over… Pichline and Dubique, and is nothing he has done for them since he came in.Although they can be easily bought.
Lots of money will have to spend in that constituency for Doc to return, and I mean lots, at least 10,000. per home.
@ insight. you are out of sight! That’s your opinion. However as someone living in the constituency i see it as a BRILLIANT MOVE. He is by a very long way the best man to do for the constitueny at this moment, and that is the view of most of the constituents too, who are working for change.
