UWP Roseau Central candidate calls for bigger budget slice for Agriculture

Glenroy Cuffy

United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for Roseau Central, Glenroy ‘Soso’ Cuffy has said that the budget allocation for the agricultural sector needs to be increased.

Cuffy said while speaking at the UWP Eastern District Zonal Rally in La Plaine on July 21, that if the UWP comes into power, they will send farmers to work to earn a living for their families and produce for their country.

“Everywhere in the world, agriculture is taken seriously by every government, so much so that they place high budgets or they have allocated big budgets to ensure that they care for the farmers so that the farmers can produce for the nation and to sell their produce outside to bring in much needed foreign exchange to their countries,” he stated.

“As a result we need to tell you we must increase the budget allocation, as a party, in agriculture… the feeder roads, we will unblock them. We have to stop that rural urban drift so farmers who are skillful in producing to sustain the livelihoods of their family and this country, we going to send them back to work.”

Cuffy worked in the agricultural sector, more particularly, the banana industry,  for many years.

Miss Eugenia Charles and Rosie Donglas told Dominicans, they should diversify, because we would lose our PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT to Chiquita and Dole.Rosie brought BERNIE GRANT a member of the British Parliament,to Dominica to tell uneducated, lazy, lying, incompetent, idiots like POSSIE,MASSACRE,VIEWSEXPESS,IBO FRANCE,LAPLAINE OBSERVER,%,and SOSO they should diversify.Edison James know UWP supporters so STUPID he promised them $ 1 a pound of BANANAS (fig). The Banana famers never got what Edison promised. As usual UWP blaming the DLP for the failure of Agriculture.Just like they blamed the DLP for the closure of the LAYOU 5 STAR HOTEL.Dominicans are MUCH more educated unlike LINTON who is uneducated.WICKED UWP.You people will burn in HELL FIRE.These UWP people take pleasure in trying to fool Dominicans.

Agriculture is the way out of poverty for us. Soso, you and the UWP are right on track. Let us support Soso and Team Dominica, my people! Let’s vote for them! We cannot continue under this lazy DLP administration that has no vision, only excuses. They say there is no market for our produce. Brother man, you have to go out into the world, in the highways and byways and get the markets, they don’t just fall in your lap. The same way you going tou par tou selling passports. You yet to find one market? one? DLP, your time is up because frankly, we can do better. We need people in government who know what they are doing.

“Everywhere in the world, agriculture is taken seriously by every government,—-so the farmers can produce for the nation and to sell their produce outside–”

Okay, Sir; you have a small point here but there is more to it than the talk.

No matter how much money the government put in farming, if the productions of farmers are not being sold outside of Dominica–then it will be almost useless.

Dominica is a farming country, but the “Roseau Market” is not enough to see a rising farming industry in on the Island–once again these products must be widely exported to the countries where farming is less abled.

For example, Toronto is a city of 3 million people, and we depend on the farming from outside for our food products; so wherever there is a supermarket there is also a huge produce department, with fish, poultry, and other meats.

Tell us how you plan to “create export” for our farming production, otherwise, you are
    saying nothing that is new.

I am from the Southern part of the island,a Labour Party stronghold. I supported deceased Roosie Douglas (hope his soul is resting in peace). After Roosie Douglas died, I became a little cold cause I wasn’t too confident with Pierro. But when this young boy who became a one-man rogue regime took over I totally gave up on these incompetent fools! I can’t support the likes of blakmort! I worked on the Castle Bruce School built by the UWP during their reign, and I can testify and attest to the fact that truck loads of plantain and other agricultural produce was leaving that area. Whilst walking home one evening in Castle Bruce,a young woman was proudly boasting that she earns$800.00 every week from agriculture. All this is now gone and you supporters of the one-man rogue regime labarats want to be proud of red clinic! :?:

Lord help Dominicans see and understand that every 5 yrs Skerrit is head of State will be 5 years worse than the last five please.
Lord help them understand that any nation or people that depends on handout is digging a pit for their children’s children tomorrow.
Lord help them see and understand that all Skerrit is doing is hide his failures with all the bling bling while our country has no foundation for a better tomorrow.
Lord help them under that Skerrit is running the country the same way a person trying to sell a bad car with a bad engine operates. So he paints the car and puts new rims but the engine is bad, transmission bad, shocks bad and everything you cannot see is bad.
Lord please help people understand that Skerrit carefully killed the banana industry, took Ross University from them and does everything to frustrate our brilliant minds so they could run out while he replaces them with poor, uneducated, and desperate Haitians that running from their country

    July 25, 2019

That’s what a real government that wants to see a better Dominica would do. But Skerrit is not real and he doesn’t have our best interest at heat so he will not put money into agriculture because he knows that would cause a lot of us to go back on our farms and that would defeat his vision of getting us POOR and keeping us POOR, so we could turn to him for everything. That’s why Skerrit killed the banana industry that had many of us employed and that’s why he destroyed frustrated Ross until they had to run! Skerrits strategy of staying in power for 50 yrs like his father Chavez is clear. It’s make us POOR and keep us POOR while he uses our money to enrich himself. SO election he has the money to buy candidates, fire and buy back candidates for more money, give us a little cookout here and there, buyout the election results, put some street lights and resurface some roads without drainage and without planning. But as for putting us to work? That’s a no no

@Kid,….tell them to ask the two agents of Chikita, Athie Martin and Edison James. Also you can ask Clayton Shillingford who was manager of the Jamaica Banana Board for some inputs because bananas production died in Jamaica also. Ask Athie why he had school children demonstrating in Bath Road in Roseau shouting “no banana no D.A.

For the past 15 years the DLP has crippled the agriculture sector. The mere fact that Mr. Cuffy is asking to incease the funding, is like breathing a sigh of relief for the farmers. They killed agriculture and created their RED CLINIC/ COOL OUT to replace it.

Yes Observer, I concur and support you fully on your comments re the failure and brutal disgusting behaviour of failed immature dangerous Skerrit and his waste of time 19 ministers, that after 19 years not one thing of prominence and substance from a socio-economic development point of view that inept Skerrit and his failed highly corrupted labour Government has done to move Dominica one inch ahead that should have benefited our people. All we see is Skerrit and his waste of time close confidantes do is talking BS Rubbish from whence they came and what they spit out. It is called political nastiness and corruption from the highest level. Skerrit has no business being a leader in Dominica. He, Skerrit has been this failed Odd Minister, came into office extremely immature and childish and he is still the same. Skerrit has not grown up, and this political clownish man now wants his girlish wife to run politics in Roseau. Please voters, get this Child out of your constituency. Get Lost.

Agriculture needs to exhiit a comprehensive plan which filters into other industries. Agriculture cannot continue to operate in a silo on its own. It needs to realize it supplies raw materials for manufacturing and agro processing which in turn filters into retail and the tourism industry. The demands put on agriculture in terms of production should be market driven with allowances for manufacturing and agro processing. Why do you think a cup of juice is now twice as expensive than soft drink .

Everything by the UWP is, we will do this and we will do that but never ever telling us HOW THEY are going to do things THEY say they are going to do. Soso, words are cheap. All that you are saying is easier said than done. Remember You ALL told the FARMER you all pretend you UWP so care about that you all would give THEM one($1.00) a pound for their banana and when you got into office what happened? Soso, If wishes were horses every beggar would ride. UWP must stop THEIR LIES and propaganda.

You are such a Kid! Do you expect them to say they will when is your lame Gov’t that has been holding back the country for 20 years?
Don’t worry soon they will be in the position to show us what they will do it.

      July 25, 2019

@ Kid,….For the last four years they did nothing but talk. So its election time so they are making all kinds of empty promises. But you do not have to be in Government ( Cabinet) to do something to make some kind of contribution. They had the time for meetings in the streets (talk), demonstrations for make belief issues(talk), they had radiothon and pay pal to pay Lenox legal fees (talk), they are allover in the USA raising campaign funds (talk), they are in the House of Assembly with no proposal but criticism (talk) and several press conferences (more talk).
As members of the House they are paid a salary every month but they prefer to stay idle and wait for opportunities to loot. They only know how to blow blue bubbles in the wind.

Kid your Government has forsaken Agriculture for so long the don’t even talk about it anymore. All they talk about is five more years….we voting labor again….who vex loss. That is their conversation….no agriculture, no culture, no tourism, no business…nothing. They only campaigning to win another election by any means necessary

Are you serious? I Listen to both political parties and their leaders and if i didn’t know better I would think both labour and UWP are in the opposition. The PM keeps repeating he is going to do the same thing before every election and never delivers . Open your ears and listen and eyes to see. The only development that takes place every 5 days in Dominica is everybody gets 5 years older. No development.

Kid on the block, you have nothing of substance to educate us or dialogue with us. It is the same old crap. You are aligned to a very distinguished failed, inept Prime Minister Skerrit and no one expects him to think logically and professionally, because for whom you follow themselves are politically ignorant, immature, lacks political substance and purpose. Ignorant for man y years nt on wat is socio-economic development. It therefore means that this clown Skerrit ably supported by his blind close affiliated has been this failure and highly incompetent. Skerrit, Go away, get the hell out of our business and do not come back. Take this childish Melissa with you and go get mature to decent politics and good governance. Skerrit, take your failed ministers and blind loyalists and that family baby-child picked to run Roseau to Go away from our Dominica and she must take that immature so called PM with her somewhere and someplace an leave us to rebuild our Dominica. Skerrit has failed, Go.
