UWP will contest all 21 constituencies – Linton

Opposition Leader and Leader of the United Worker’s Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, has dismissed rumours that deputy leader of the party, Joshua Francis, will be replaced at the upcoming general elections.
Linton’s announcement dispelled speculation stemming from a call by DLP operatives for Francis who won the Roseau South seat for the UWP in 2014, to be “kicked out” because of domestic and personal issues.
Declaring that the UWP will contest all 21 constituencies, Linton on Thursday named Francis on a list of 14 confirmed candidates and said the candidates for Grand Fond, Vieille Case, Petite Savanne, Soufriere, Grand Bay and Kalinago Territory will be announced soon.
The confirmed candidates are:
Roseau South – Joshua Francis
Glenroy “Soso” Cuffy – Roseau Central
Danny Lugay – Roseau North
Felix Thomas – Mahaut
Francisca Joseph – La Plaine
Jefferson James – Portsmouth
Nicholas George – Colihaut
Monelle Williams-Jno Baptiste – St. Joseph
Ernie Lawrence-Jno Finn – Castle Bruce
Hector John – Salisbury
Ezekel Bazil – Wesley
Marcus Romain – Cottage
Ronald Charles – Roseau Valley
Lennox Linton – Marigot

Based on my analysis of historical data, polls conducted by various pollsters and feedback from the electorate, it seems that the United Workers Party have a very good chance of winning the next general elections. Based on my analysis the projected outcome of the next general elections could be as follows:
    1. Cottage DLP
    2. Portsmouth DLP
    3. Colihaut DLP
    4. Salisbury UWP
    5. St Joseph UWP
    6. Mahaut UWP
    7. Roseau North UWP
    8. Roseau Central UWP
    9. Roseau Valley UWP
    10. Roseau South UWP
    11. Soufriere DLP
    12. Petite Savanne DLP
    13. Grand Bay DLP
    14. La Plaine UWP
    15. Grand Fond UWP
    16. Castle Bruce UWP
    17. Kalinago Territory UWP
    18. Marigot UWP
    19. Wesley UWP
    20. Paix Bouche DLP

    UWP – 13 seats, DLP – 8 seats

  5. My little take
    February 23, 2019

Did Hon. Lennox Linton say that the candidate for Grand Fond is not confirmed, as of February 20, 2019? If so that should help people understand the crisis in Dominica. It was earlier this week I heard a member of the UWP on Q95, called the name of Dr. Fontaine as the confirmed UWP candidate for Grand Fond and two days later the party leader is telling the nation that they don’t have a confirmed candidate? What happened to Dr. Fontaine who no doubt warn that seat last election in 2014, but was stolen from him and someone paid for that since and 5 yes later Dr. Fontaine is out? Why is UWP doing this to us when the country is so badly in need of change, the people are ready for change and Pm is doing everything to ensure change becomes a reality? Is there really something going on between Linton and the Dr? Skerrit told us Dr was resigning as senator because of Linton’s leadership and though Linton denied it Fontaine never did. To see Grand Fond unconfirmed surely confirms Pm statement

  6. February 23, 2019

What about Dr Thompson Fontaine, Mr Linton we need to see Dr Fontaine name on that list, this is what Skerrit wants to see you guys in prison, Dr Fontaine is not the one committing treason against Dominican and Dominica, it is skerrit and his hoons selling our sovereignty to crooks and criminals all over the glode, Dr Fontaine need to come home, why let the enemies triumphant over us, why give them the victory, Skerrit the dictator who is copy catting on Maduro, his day will surely come, for the pit he is digging for the UWP members, supporters, and those who are talking against his corruption will surely fall in it

    Do the mathematics.
Very easy. They short of seven to make 21 and Labor HAS ALL 21. Therefore all Labor needs is 4 more to add to the 7 THEY already have more than UWP short of to make 11 to form the government.
Easy win for Labor believe it or not.

NO,NO, UWP , your slate of Candidates might not cut it . Out of 21 , only 2 Women ? today, our Women are more Educated than most men are , don’t get mis-led with Gender . We all should endeavor to elevate the Woman as much as possible , the same way she nurses the Man and her Children back to health after a DIS-EASE she can do likewise for her State/ Country , and Nation . The Ancients told us , to be a good Man , he must have the best part of a Woman in him , to be a good Woman she must have the best part os a Man in her , do we have any examples ? i’m sure some have . A vast %age of Men tend to speak and think with their PHALUS .

Kind of making it sound like some women should be there just because they are women. Yes their are women who would make the cut but you cant say that’s a bad team or that’s a good team cause one has more women than the other

    • Ibo France
      February 23, 2019

Bob Denis, what a political party should endeavor to do is to form a government with the best persons for the job. If the best persons for the job are all men or all women, so be it. This fallacious idea that the quota of women should be a specific number is not necessary. Put the best candidates forward without favoring one gender over the other. Give me quality over quantity every time.

  11. As I See It
    February 22, 2019

Interestingly some important names are missing from this list. I know it says so far… confirmed candidates but no:
    1. Doc Thompson Fontaine? If I don’t see Dr. Fontaine I will go insane.
    2. Claudius Sandford? Well I guess after two failed attempts it might be time to try someone else
    3. Vielle case? The PM needs someone that can make him sweat and with some sleepless nights
    4. Paix Bouche? The last female candidate deserves a second chance though I wish she resided here.
    5. I understand Soufriere because of the sad accident of Dr. Sam. DFP should contest that seat
    6. Grand Bay? It would be cool to see the former Ambassador give it a run
7.Pitite Savanne? Let’s hope and pray because that seat is floating

  12. I Still Red
    February 22, 2019

So far looks like a very formidable team but I must say I am shock that I did not see the name of Dr. Thompson Fontaine on the list of confirmed candidates and I am in tears because even if I Red, Dominica needs a man like Dr. Fontaine at this time. It’s like West Indies picking a World Cup Team and Chris Gayle is not on the team. I hope is not because of the arrest warrant Skerrit and them put on the young man that causing us to miss out on such a brilliant gift. I hope @ Viewsexpress does not tell me again that it is not my funky business because whatever happens in Dominica is my Funky Business.

Well said Red, well said, This is a good read and thought provoking that everyone, Red Blue, White, Green Yellow must read. I never make politics, and politicians divide me from my Dominican people, irrespective of faith, religion, political party, etc. I appreciate all Dominicans. When I write I ponder on the safety of our island and care and attention of our people. That is what we expect from parents, Mothers, fathers, Grand ma, Grad Pa and extended families to care and support all in what ever way you can. Leaders of state and politician who has fail and condone corruption and abuse states funds etc must be told so. I take my Dominica personally because we must prepare and ensure the foundation for our children must be firm. That is where Skerrit is a big failure and has abused our states resources. Skerrit is a failure and those blind supporters who just promote Skerrit and want to get at Hon Linton and his decent UWP Team, it will not work. Dominica is first. Welcome UWP Yes.

I am hoping that this failed corrupt waste of time, useless so called corrupt labour government only succeed in getting maximum three (3)Seats and Skerrit, Regie etc must not be part of this number. His party I feel must Go to Hell Go to hell Go to Hell in oblivion and dont come back until you all have erased, confessed and apologise to all Dominicans of the mischief, Bobol, abuse of states fund, abuse of poor people thru the corrupted Red Clinic up in the failed PM`s Office. From this bad government, immature Pm, it is an insult and disrespect to our people. Skerrit`s failed us, has reduced us to high poverty under his blind watch, therefore this corrupt failed baby junior PM has inflicted on us Dominicans, our people, flesh and blood to beg for states funds. No employment, has killed our agricultural sector, has acolytes out there distributing Red Clinic money, something we have seen with our eyes where Dominicans wait at Financial Centre to receive not jobs but blind, fake loyalty.Go

Undoubtedly, the UWP has put forward a very laudable team thus far. I just hope that they stay true to their commitments and serve everybody when they take the reins of government after the upcoming general election. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The new government needs to be people oriented and refrain from selfish gains. Looking out for the poor, uplifting the down trodden is doable. We need policies and strategic planning that work for everybody regardless of political affiliations. We need to leave the antiquated politics of personal destruction, self aggrandizement, individualism over collectivism behind for the collective good.of the country. The Skerrit-led DLP administration is too steep in politics of corruption and destruction to change its hardcore policies uselessness.

The UWP is prepared for government, if you want to know how many UWP will win, say Mash or goodbye to your corrupt Labour leader and come to where it is most decent, professional and honest with Dominicans. Your so called Skerrit and his corrupt Labour Party government has failed us and we need to go, so stop biting your Dog and be humane for once and put Domininca first and stand tall to decency, that way you will stop biting dogs with fleas and Labour Government with corrupt stains all over their names. If that is where you stand blindly, open your eyes and have a good look of our Dominica, deteriorated to the evel of poverty by your Skerrit, a big disappointment. Get rid of him. Skerrit Go Go

Lennox, all I have to say is that I wish a conversation would be had with Alex Pawol Bruno to run for the Paix-Bouche Constituency, for the life of me I can not understand why all the candidates should come from Paix-Bouche village itself. Calibishie is a much larger village
Nothing of note has been done in that constituency since even Mathew Walter. Roselyn is a sweetheart but it’s all the same under Skerrit, no progress.

  25. Political Analyst
    February 22, 2019

For the first U feel UWP has a very good chance of really competing in every single constituency. Based on what I hearing from secret voters I have no doubt UWP will win Roseau North, South, Central and Roseau Valley. UWP will win in Mahault, St. Joseph and Bawi. UWP will also win in Grandfond, Castle Bruce and in La plain, Marigot and Wesley. The Carib Territory will be very close and I would not be surprised if it goes to the uwp and Cottage, Soufriere and Petite Savanne are unclear. The DLP will win Vielle Case, Paix Bouche, Portsmouth, Colihault and Grandbay, Vielle Case will not be an easy win for the DLP this time because there will be some thunderstorms and the same is true with Portsmouth. So as I move from constituency to constituency I see 12 sure seats for UWP, 5 sure for DLP and 5 floating in the air. If Soufriere is a straight fight between the DLP and DFP the DFP will win but if it’s a three team race it could be anyone’s seat.

    • viewsexpressed
      February 23, 2019

Good observation Political Analyst. I however not sure that I share the point of DFP will win Soufriere. Personally for me, Domininca comes first and at all costs UWP must win as Dr Sam Christian is a good guy, a committed community developer and doctor. Sam has all the prescriptions to cure the ills and disaster of the out going corrupt poison Labour Party Government. Freedom will put Dominica first and ensure that this corrupt Skerrit`s government get the hell out of government. Skerrit and his corrupt government have failed us Dominicans. Skerrit must Go. ..Corrupt Labour party must go. Go confess your sins of destruction to your respective pastors and priests. Go cleanse yourselves of evil doings. Skerrit must never be Prime Minister of Domininca again. He has been this Odd Minister who has crippled our Dominica`s economy and reduced our families and people to the point as beggars at the Financial Centre with acolyte couriers delivering cash at families homes. Skerrit get lost Go.

We have dedicated servants who will represent their respective constituents with honor and dignity. Our platform message of transparency and accountability will eventually prevail over lies, deception, and corruption.
