Vendor disappointed over level of participation in Market day with a Difference

Local vendor expresses his disappoint in the lack of participation in Market Day with a Difference.

Market Day with a Difference was organized by Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) and the Roseau Market Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Culture under the theme “Saluting Resilience and Rejuvenation Two Years On”.

Vendor Christopher James who is the producer of Chef Six Natural Products said that: “as a people we need to do better than that a lot of people are not dressed in the creole wear I just find that this year could have been better”.

He said that he hopes that the vendors make greater effort towards the activity in the following year.

James noted that Market Day with a Difference is a symbol of patriotism.

“When you talk about patriotism that is what it is all about, market day with a difference going to the rallies, going to the food fares, going to creole festival that’s what we have that’s how we make our money” said James.

He lamented that during these times Dominicans should forget about the politics and come together as a people.

“We have to forget about the petty politics and foolishness and come together as a people and love each other and care about each other” he stated.

Meantime, Minister for Trade, Energy and Employment Honorable Ian Douglas said that:Two years on the agricultural sector has responded well and our farmers and vendors must be commended for making these goods readily available to our population”.

Douglas stated that he was impressed by the range of fruits and vegetables that was on display.  He said that it is time to encourage greater consumption of fruits and vegetables as a means of addressing the nutritional needs of the population.

He said that: “One of the ways of increasing our local demand for the things that we produce is through consumption of more fruits and vegetables as a population.”

Douglas expressed the fact that the government is concerned about the growing incidents of nutritional related non-communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, obesity and certain cancers among the population.

He said that the consumption of the healthy foods can be an important tool in the fight against non-communicable diseases.

Market Day with a Difference was held on Saturday at the New Roseau Market.

When Festival over at 9 am in the morning they expected people to turn out in large numbers? It makes no sense… People were tired and exhausted, it’s not because they don’t have money.. They should do better or change things around….

When you allow your local fresh produce market to be usurped, controlled and dominated by a rising tide of ‘perpetual TOURISTS’ what do you expect?
They owe no allegiance, to this nation nor do they know and respect it’s ‘proud’ heritage and traditions. So, this unfortunate outcome was inevitable.
Dominicans are pretending to be conveniently ASLEEP, surreptitiously veiled in a cloak of xenophilic PIOUSNESS. History have proven that those who do so, usually awake; STRANGERS in their own land
