Councillor’s statement on development in Castle Bruce questioned

Angelica Gasper (l) with Octavia Alfred

UWP senator Isaac Baptiste has called out the Chairperson of the Castle Bruce Village Council on remarks she made recently that a lot of development has taken place in Castle Bruce.

Angelica Gasper told party supporters at the launch of the Dominica Labour Party’s Octavia Alfred in Castle Bruce recently, that she was certain that they had seen “lots of development” as they came in to the village.

Baptiste has challenged Gasper to spell out the developments in Castle Bruce since, according to him, he was not aware of many developments taking place in the community. He said of the projects which he knew were being undertaken in Castle Bruce, some will benefit the community,”but most are for political gain.”

“Projects which are happening in Castle Bruce are the building of the apartment buildings in Sikwi,” said Baptiste, an architect and city planner by profession. He said he believes that the apartment buildings near the playing field are inappropriate housing and improperly located.

“Once the people move in, there will prove [to be] a problem because it is not appropriate,” he stated.

Baptiste laments the fact that the Wakaman road which had been non-motorable for years, was hurriedly paved in 3 days, according to him, to facilitate the launch of the Labour Party Candidate, Octavia Alfred.

Recently resurfaced Wakaman road

The UWP senator welcomed the building of a new bridge over Senhouse River which had been broken down for more than 2 years.

“The building of that bridge is long overdue and will give people easy access to their homes in that area”, he said. However, he contends that nothing has been done in terms of job creation for the area.

“The people need jobs,” Baptiste stressed.

Baptiste said the agricultural sector in the community has been destroyed and is non-existent – a strategy, he claims is being used by the ruling DLP to make people in the rural areas become dependent on the Parliamentary Representative and the Dominica Labour Party.

“So I suggest that the Village Council Chairperson spell out what she meant; what she said is happening in Castle Bruce Constituency,” he said. He cautioned community community leaders about giving misinformation to their people.

“It does not motivate their people,” he said.”The people are not blind they can see the statements she made is incorrect, and all it suggests and shows biasness of the individual who made the statement.”

Baptiste, who is the president of the United Workers Party, is not the only Castle Bruce resident who is at odds with Gasper’s position on development in the community.

“I thinks she is crazy! What development she talking about?.” one villager asked. “These people walking with their eyes closed.”

Two college seemed amused when asked for their opinion. One of them stated, “Guess she is talking about the Wakaman road resurfacing, the Senhouse bridge finally being built and the patching of the roads, but I don’t really see development at all”.

“What happening in Castle Bruce?,” another young adult rejoined with a question, “What development?”

Angelica Gasper has been a Councillor for more than 12 years and has held the position of Chairperson for two terms (one term runs for 3 years).

The Castle Bruce Village Council office is still under tarpaulin 20 months after Hurricane Maria.

Those are indeed desparate times for the UWP. The chairman of the party is asking for specifics but with the same voice he is numerating several projects. He claims they are made for political purposes so as such they are not development projects.
O.K Sir, They are for the people of Castle Bruce.

It is a fact that there has been and still to this day, no developmental projects nor initiatives has taken place or will take place in Castle Bruce. Skerrit`s corrupt labour government is a fake and are desperate to win next election but has ignored and done nothing at all in Castle Bruce area for over 20 years.
    1. Baptiste said the agricultural sector in the community has been destroyed and is non-existent – This is a Fact. Skerrit’s corrupt Labour government has reduced thriving Castle Bruce to the begging/poverty area, now he want to build structure and offer handouts to our people. This is shameful and insulting Madam. Angelica and Octavia “There has been no development” in our village.? This is a damn lie and you say this to appease Skerrit and for
    Nonsense BS Talk:
1.they had seen “lots of development” as they came in to the village. A damn lie. 2.Village Council Chairperson spell out what she said is happening in Castle Bruce Constituency. Lies & Deception. Skerrit fool…

The Skerrit-led DLP government is an EXPERIMENT gone wrong. It has liquidated the economy; devastated agriculture; severely injured patriotism; fragmented the country and stifled democracy. Building an apartment complex here and fixing a road there can never compensate for the nineteen years of economic terror and insufferable hardships that the masses have had to endure. GO AWAY, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  10. As chairperson of a village council and your office is still under tarpaulin, and you are taking about
    development.. and
after 20 . month your office is still under tarpaulinI I wonder where were you?

Running around at this late hour, one minute to the mid night hour, cannot bring enough relief to the nineteen years of insufferable hardship. The hunger pangs of too many children and adults; the embarrassment and the suffering due to the disconnection of water and electricity; the scarcity of jobs; the high murder rate; the odorous smell and an eyesore looking capital tow; these are just too unbearable for the DLP to deserve a redo. The long suffering Dominicans, deserve a fresh start, with a fresh administration, with fresh and visionary ideas to bring about a complete freshness to this severely bruised and battered land.

They did the same thing in kingshill, a fast resurfacing of the roads with no proper drains. back street have not seen road repairs since Ossie Walsh did that road during freedom party, and they did not resurface it. Shame on this labour party government, time to go.

How did you effect change Mr. Baptiste. You mislead us … you said you are not in power you can’t assist.
Shut up! With all your skills and competence you have not contributed anything to CB. You are one of those person’s the DLP and the Chairperson gave money toput your guest house running again. Shameful man. You have guts. Teacher Fea has done well for us here in CB. Not even a proper evaluation you have us after Maria. You under evaluated our homes. If you had some your work fairly we would not have to depend I anyone as you say.
You I all person should know how badly we are and have been affected by disaster, but amidst all of this we have bounced back without your input and that of your lazy opposition members.
Where is the money you all collected in behalf of Dominica. Liars! God doesn’t sleep. We will whip you all at the polls. We can’t wait.

Bravo, read what you have written, ringing bringing down to the doldrums….read this crap. “You I all person should know how badly we are and have been affected by disaster, …” So damn true. That disaster, if you re call to tell us, has been and is Skerrit and his 19 failed incompetent, worthless ministers of that failed corrupt Labour Government. Castle Bruce has an hon8raboe man who has tirelessly served his village up to this day. We need change, it is time now for this failed political clown Skerrit and his waste of time failed Labour Government to go. We welcome Hon Lennox Linton and his professional, trusted UWP Team – Dominica. We look forward to serve and work in partnership with the incoming new Prime Minister, Sir Linton and his distinguished UP Team of trusted ministers. Amen God I Good

Money makes the mare go!!!! While she is boasting of development in the village and constituency the building which houses her office and through which any and all development is to be channelled is still under blue tarpaulin. It is sad how some of us will sell our souls for a few dollars. And neither the pastor nor the pastor’s wife called on her for openly lying to Dominica!?!?!?!?!? Labor, labor, labor remember that the love of money is theroot of all evil. Note, not money!!!

This is the misinformation the DLP is spreading around the country to see how many uninformed citizens will swallow the pill. Doing something only when they are launching their candidates, is like placing bandage on a temporary cut. After 20 years of economic stagnation and a 27% unemployment rate, Labor MUST go.

Amen Mr. Baptiste. And i fully agree with you on the inappropriate location of that apartment building. Right on the playing field they put that. Wen there is ample space in castle bruce.

   ; Development in Castle Bruce?

That woman needs her head examined asap! Calling Dr. Benjamin, Dr. Taryeed from the days of old…souplay , please have this young lady’ head scanned and intrusively examined because apparently she is fooing. The very roof over her office has not been repaired since Maria and she has the guts to come talk about development?

Bortoe River Bridge (Senhouse River) is yet to be completed after all this time and will be NOT be well aligned after completion but you have development in Castle Brice? All young man in Sikwi hustling strangers for a drink every day with nothing else to do and you have development in Castle Bruce? If I can see all this the people of Castle Bruce are definitely not walking with their eyes close. SMH

Right on, Bandy! True development is not a rush to build apartments and to resurface roads in order to curry favor with the electorate. It is the ability of people to provide adequately for themselves in order to live a comfortable life. One can easily judge how well a country is doing from the living standard of the average citizen. The present living standard of Dominicans is far below that of their counterparts in the neighboring countries. Election gimmicks are no means to gloat about. Too many people are living SOUTH of the POVERTY LINE.

We need to hold these Labour mouthpieces accountable for what they say in public. It can’t be that they keep on broadcasting blatant lies and get away with it. What a society Skerrit created in Dominica. It’s disgusting and some people still keep on supporting this nonsense!
