The Dominica Voice of life Radio is holding a share campaign from Wednesday 16th December to Saturday 19th 2020.
The aim of the Share-A-Thon is to raise funds to keep the radio and its programs active. During this time listeners are invited to pledge and donate funds to the radio station.
The event which was an annual affair, was last held in 2018.
According to the VOL website, critical sections of the station’s external broadcasting equipment were dealt a massive blow by Hurricane Maria. All of VOL’s broadcasting towers and antennas at its transmitter sites suffered significant damage – some were completely destroyed. In addition, VOL’s single back-up generator was washed away by the Loubiere river which flooded the station’s compound.
These challenges resulted in the station being completely off-air (both via radio and internet streaming) from September 19, 2017 until early December 2017 when limited broadcasting on VOL’s 102.1FM frequency resumed.
“Through perseverance and God’s guidance, the station was able to gradually undertake repairs and re-establish its 24 hour broadcasting via radio on the 102.1FM frequency and the internet within the first quarter of 2018,” VOL states.
It says restoration & reactivation of the 90.7FM frequency occurred in the third quarter of 2018, the southern component of the 106.1FM frequency in the third quarter of 2019 and the northeastern component of the 106.1FM frequency during the second quarter of 2020.
Voice of life is a broadcasting station focus on delivering a message of peace and hope to its listeners and the island of Dominica.
