WEATHER UPDATE (12:00 PM, June 29): Increased shower, thunderstorm activity and windspeed expected tonight as tropical wave begins to affect Dominica

A tropical wave located in the Tropical Atlantic, which is being monitored for development, is expected to begin affecting the island from tonight through Wednesday and into Thursday. This is expected to result in an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity across Dominica together with an increase in wind speeds. People living in or traversing areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks should be on alert. Another tropical wave is also being monitored for development in the Central Tropical Atlantic and expected to affect the area by Friday into Saturday. The public is advised to monitor the progress of these systems. The Dominica Met. Service will continue to provide further updates.

Dust haze will continue to linger in varying concentrations across the area during the next few days. People with respiratory sensitivities are advised to continue taking the necessary precautions to avoid complications.

Moderate seas are anticipated during the next 24 hours with waves peaking to 8.0ft. A further deterioration to near 10.0ft can be expected on Wednesday. A small craft advisory is in effect for above normal seas.
