Danger at Macoucherie

bridge-at-macoucherie1

The Bailey Bridge at Macoucherie dropped a few inches on the left side of the southern end due to inclement weather affecting the island.

Motorists should exercise extreme caution when using the bridge or avoid it altogether.

It is very disgraceful and inhumane to see the bad treatment dished out by this Government in every sector of the Nation. After a year plus, the bridges are yet to be worked on. One is lead to conclude that Dominicans are given the treatment they deserve. It’s like they are yet enjoy the freedom of a democratic people.
Who is calling the Prime minister to account for the poor state of affairs in Dominica Re : bad roads , broken bridges not broken dreams?
When will Dominicans on either side of the political fence , exercise their rights in the form of rallies n peaceful protest action demanding that Mr Skerritt and those in Authority do what they have been voted to do?
When will Dominicans wise up and make their voices be heard?
Dominica got its problems in many ways but that doesn’t mean politicians should keep the people backward and out of touch with reality.
It’s no suprise that Dominicans who get the opportunity migrate does so with eyes closed. Life in Dominica is to…

Hello and good morning my people. Well the Government keep giving scholarships to student but I haven’t heard any students studying to be Civil Engineers which is what we need to build our infurstructure. Why can’t the Government higher an outside Engineering Firm to design those critical bridges because it seems to me that . The current bridges are to low and the foundation is to close to the river edge.

It’s time to build a permanent suspension bridge in that and many other areas.

What happened to all the money received after TS Erika? No accountability, no rebuilding, everything is on hiatus a year and three months later. Have we become a moomoo society or become so self-absorbed that we don’t care of country anymore? Before we took pride in taking care of country and each other, today it is survival for the fittest.

I don’t think motorists should be exercising caution; the onus must be on the government to fix the thing.

They should use the 18 million dollars to replace the bailey bridges instead of building a new bridge in Roseau which at this time is not a priority. The cart before the horse like they always do. But then again “WE LIKE IT SO”

I was giving serious consideration of splitting my time between DA and my current home, but lately, all I keep seeing is hardship in DA.

I have worked hard and being comfortable is very important to me.

Being from the west coast, the water supply has been intermittent to non-existent since TS Erika. Now that bridge is likely not safe.

This does not bode well for people like me who would want to move back and enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Hello and good morning my people. Don’t give up on our country rather find a way to invest and give ideas to our leaders regardless of political affiliation. There are challenges but we can over come them if we put our ideas forwards to the people that matters. Building a bridge over the river is simple from my stand point but I can’t understand why the officials responsible can’t see that. First the foundation is to close to the rivers edge and the bridge is to low.

Has anyone observe when Dominicans complain the wheels of government is slow to respond, but add some pictures with it on social media it seem like the same government is in a frenzy. Now, having said that my suggestion is that a few concern Dominicans with technical expertise and open minded concern citizen form a group to assess all roads around Dominica and document failing roads, blocked drains and culvert pipes and any road safety issues. The documentation can take the form of pictures and video with clear description of location and deficiencies requiring repairs. This information can be given to DNO or posted on facebook for drivers to be aware of any dangers on the roadway before they traverse on the roads in Dominica.

ignorant people are so foolish- it is amazing! Our Country is in a mess and you can hide your head in the debris if you want but truth will always testify and come forth. Things are horrible ! the administration is not working in the interest of all Dominicans, maybe a few like you will continue to deny the truth – but it is.

The Government officials and their Cabals – having lavish birthday parties and showing off on facebook – yet the country continue to go down the drain. So continue being stupid and wear your ignorance like a badget of honour. but it is what it is – the truth

the old plantation bridge saved it cuz it was shielding the bailey bridge..other than that it would have ended up in the sea.

Foe many months now I have been complaining about this bridge and the one in Batalie. Why haven\’t anything done to replace these two simple bridges on flat land?
The Gov\’t is paying the man who owns the estate tens of thousands of dollars to allow vehicles to pass on his land but they can\’t hire a company to build a simple deck bridge .
I hold Dominicans responsible for the Government actions because is all you that singing , \”De P.M working\”.

  17. TS Erika
    December 2, 2016

last year the people of salisbury came out in protest of bad roads in the area. the Dominican public along with the seating govt and their acolytes took to the air waves and assassinated their characters to the lowest. several members of that same community are still before the courts for this same cause. had these roads been at least maintained i am sure the risks would have been reduced. it is sad when a few prove that they cannot see past their political colors and everything else comes after their leader including Dominica. But today the threat of the bad road is not only to salisbury people. It has extended to Dominica because every community north of salisbury has to use this route. Please i appeal to the govt of the day do something about this problem before it ends up resulting in people being swept away by raging waters. the brush road, gros morne, ti macoucherie, macoucherie highway, plat fond and lavieji just to name a few. thank you

Nothering is done properly in Dominica . Structural works when completed has no inspection done by independent officials. People lives are put on the death line.

Government should have more robust checks done on all structural works . Why a major road way like that not given very urgent priority because that a danger to the public and lives. The Bride should be closed period see the situation of it in the photos. DOMINICA HAVE NO HEALTH AND SAFETY LAWS FOR ITS CITIZEN.

With the slope protection that I am seeing in that picture, I am surprised that that bridge did not settle before.

While the new bridge is going up in Roseau, these bridge foundations are still in that condition? These are temporary structures, and they appear to be treated as permanent structures.

$18 million bridge in roseau to be constructed by a foreign construction co. Cost of the project inflated according to credible civil engineers. Dominicans have built bridges before skerritt was born. now he is depriving locals to work on such national projects.

In the meantime, while all the $$$$$$$$$ going in one whole, they themselves creating jobs for the boys and the ensuing kick-backs, the bridges are being compromised, getting worse, jeopardising the lives of people travelling that route on the west coast and places like Delices.

No work on replacing those TEMPANENT bailey bridges. Peoples lives are at risk given the severity of the rivers in flood, with increased rainfall.

Skerritt DLP Gov’t cannot raise funds from the international financial community. not even for such important projects, after severe weather like Erika, in the effort to mitigate the devastation caused by climate change phenomenon.

Cabal main focus is the amassing of wealth., selling…

  23. Hurricane Skerrit
    December 1, 2016

Unfortunately DNO has not been moderating this past week and I know I wasting my time composing. However, the fact of the matter is, the Roseau to Portsmouth road is our main road in Dominica and it was severely damaged by Erika, in August 2015, when three bridges were destroyed. Thanks to the government of St. Vincent, who assisted us with three baily bridges (hope they will not ask for them as they to got a pounding this week). The painful truth is, almost 2 years later this inept Skerrit administration has not even removed any of those bridges from the river, let alone to build back. All we hearing is more lies, and more propaganda, while poor people children are building hotels from the sale of our passports. Today we see one baily bridge sinking and posing a major threat to motorist. What’s up with us Dominicans? Why are we so damn stupid?

We are waiting for China to fully take over brother and by that time Skerrit and his family will be living comfortably in the U.S.A. under Trump.

Is Dominica the only country where rain falls?
If the Govt does not put proper infrastructure in place this will happen all the time.
The labor party has to put its priorities straight. So Dominicans when you start to lead the Government will follow.

  25. December 1, 2016

They lucky it did not wash away !the government of Dominica havemthem like they are pernament bridges . It’s a whole year and months these bridge should have been replace with the real thing.
I would like Dominicans to ask their govetnment how much money they received in plight of Dominica during erica. I know Barbados kept a concert how much was given to Dominica it must have been said but i have never heard so please enlightened me.
