Radar and satellite imagery indicated that moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds to tropical storm force associated with Maria are affecting Dominica. The forecast is for this activity to continue and intensify at times as the center moves nearer to Dominica along with sustained winds of tropical storm and hurricane force. Rough to dangerous seas are also expected to continue into Tuesday.
Residents are advised to keep safe and resist the urge to go sight-seeing. Reports indicated that a few landslides and rising water levels are already occurring.
Expected rainfall amount for Dominica is between 10 to 12 inches (250 to 300mm) with higher amounts in elevated areas.
Persons in areas prone to flooding, landslides and falling rocks are advised to be extremely vigilant and to exercise extreme caution as life threatening flash flooding is imminent or already occurring.
Sustained winds of tropical storm and hurricane force are occurring or will occur shortly this evening into Tuesday. Be mindful of flying debris and avoid outdoor activities.
Swells generated by Maria are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions and coastal flooding.

I lived on the gorgeous island of Dominica for 2 years when I was 6 and 7 years old (I am now age 70. We lived on the Atlantic side of the island in La Plane–the really rugged side. This was the only place in this world I really felt was home. I have called it “my island”. Now, to think of it being destroyed by hurricane “Maria”, is so very sad. I pray for all the beloved people and pets in Dominica and all of the Caribbean. Genny (Parker) Abbott.
Amen…so sad..praying for you
Only on Sunday I heard that Hurricane Maria was a Category 1. It has escalated its Category to 4 so soon?
God help and protect Dominica. In Jesus Name I pray.
Thoughts and prayers going out to the wonderful people of Dominica. I was a guest of the graciouus people of Dominica 1980 to 1982 as a student. I have fond memories of those days and will keep my eye on the situation and oppportunities too help.
Good luck and God bless
