The Dominica Meteorological Office has urged residents to continue monitoring the progress of Tropical Storm Erika as the weather system continues to move towards the west at near 20 MPH.
The center is expected to approach the Leeward Islands Wednesday night and early Thursday with maximum sustained winds at near 45 mph. Higher gusts and some strengthening are forecast for the next couple of days.
According to the Meteorological l Office report, weak unstable conditions are expected to continue throughout the day and moderate sea conditions are expected during the next 12 to 24 hours with waves peaking near 7.0 feet. An increase is likely with the passage of Erika.
The report stated that occasional cloudiness and scattered showers will continue across parts of the Lesser Antilles.
Tropical storm watches have been issued for portions of the Leeward Islands.
To all my fellow Dominicans it will be thirty-six years since David devastated our beautiful island but we came back stronger than before. Now here comes Erika who has knocked our island down again. We will rise again. Now is the time for those of us who are abroad to stand together and raise you up again. Keep you head up my people!
