Irma, the ninth tropical storm of the season, formed over the Eastern Atlantic at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 30.
The Dominica Meteorological Service said the system is expected to approach the area by early next week and interests in the Lesser Antilles are advised to monitor its progress.
At 11:00 am, the storm was located over 1300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles.
Winds are at 50 miles per hour with further strengthing anticipated as the storm moves in a western direction at 13 miles per hour.
Irma could become a hurricane by Friday.
In the meantime, weak unstable conditions will continue to produce cloudiness, shower and isolated thunderstorm activity across parts of the island chain during the next 24 hours.
A westward moving tropical wave across the Central Tropical Atlantic is expected to approach the area by late Friday.
Slight to moderate seas are expected during the next 24 hours with waves peaking near 5.0 feet.
Dominicans get prepared Irma willi definitely strike us. Just look at today’s cone projection and you will see Dominica in the centre of it’s path. According to the National Hurricane Centre Irma is going to be a category 4 or 5 just approaching the islands and is said to be very dangerous. Dominicans don’t sit by believing we will be speared. This is just another DAVID coming.
May Jehovah God rebuke that we shall be speared. if it dose hit us let us be prepared before it comes for us.
