UWP calls for ‘extreme care’ as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches Dominica

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Dominica

Leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton has called on citizens to exercise extreme care and caution as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches the island.

He was speaking at a press conference held at the Prevo Cinemall on Tuesday.
Dominica is presently under a Hurricane Watch, although Isaac was downgraded to a tropical storm.

“The threat does not compare with the wind strength of Hurricane Maria, it is important that all our citizens exercise extreme care and caution since these winds can still cause serious damage,” he said.

In that regard, Linton urged Dominicans to heed seriously warnings issued by the authorities, “in particular we encourage fellow citizens who are living under tents or whose houses are still covered by tarpaulins or whose houses suffered structural damage during Maria that remains unresolved to seek more reliable shelter.”

He also advised people living close to ravines and other waterways to move to a more secure shelter since the storm may be accompanied by heavy rains.

“In addition be sure that you stock up at least three days of food, water, batteries and other essentials in the event that utilities are interrupted and the country sustains serious damage,” Linton advised.

He also called on citizens to look out for the elderly and others who may be alone in their homes and don’t have access to the Hurricane shelters where these are available.

“We continue to pray for our country and to bid our fellow citizens a safe and secure passage through the storm,” Linton said.

People like Silver Fox and others remind me of the religious bunch that referred to Jesus as Belzibub and treated Belzebob as God. They uphold evil and condemn good. They bless lies and condemn truth . Is people like them that said to condemn Jesus but give us a known criminal instead . A true Fox you all are. But let’s not forget that foxes have holes to hide, Jesus said. So silver Fox you just digging you hole that you could hide

I would like to ask Linton why his party’s radio (Q95) refuses to carry the press briefings on Isaac? Linton strikes me as being a hypocrite.

      1. Linton does not own that station, the uwp gravitates to Q95 because they get little to no access on the government run and influenced stations.

      2. While I have wondered myself why some of these reports don’t reach Q, various Q95 hosts have repeatedly said they are slighted when it comes to these events and press releases. It was mentioned this afternoon on Q95 that they were simply not aware or invited to many of these events and no press release was sent to them.

This means an entire group of people could be fore saken simply because they don’t listen to the “government approved” station. That’s clear politics at work you should demand it be stopped or ask your government (our government) a question about that. Since you seem to have an interest in holding some people accountable.

What you mean is that he is learning and that is good! People have been rejecting his political opportunism on the back of Dominica’s misfortune with the recent disasters so at least he is trying another strategy. Good for you guy. The toxic mauvais lang is not working.

We have to hold those who aspire to governance of this country accountable for their behaviour, not just those presently in office.

Ten points up for you sir. something is beginning to catch your attention.

Excellent press conference with lots of practical instructions in the face of unpredictable Isaac. Well done team. People are listening.

What is so practical about these basic common sense instructions? Give me a break.

too much politics. What is wrong with you all. The Prime Minister has spoken. What more do you need? Everything is politics. Are you all crazy or what? UWP is a big opportunist.

Linton you and your so-called party are a propagandist social club. And now you trying to sell us a propaganda stunt the majority of us will not buy, please don’t insult our intelligence.
