Moisture and instability ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone 5 is affecting the area. This is expected to result in cloudy to overcast skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Further deterioration in conditions is expected from this evening as the system draws nearer. This may result in life threatening flash floods, landslides and falling rocks especially from this evening. A flood warning will be in effect from 6pm this evening until 6pm Tuesday. The public is advised to be vigilant and to exercise extreme caution.
At 11am the disturbance was centered near latitude 15.1 North, longitude 55.6 West or about 380 miles east of Dominica. The system is moving toward the west near 26 mph (42 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue with some decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days. On the forecast track, the disturbance is expected to move across the northern Lesser Antilles on Tuesday.
Interest in Dominica and the northern Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system and begin making preparations.
Moderate seas can be expected in open water with waves peaking near 8ft today. Deterioration in sea conditions peaking to near 12ft is possible on Tuesday evening. All users of the sea are advised to monitor the progress of this system and exercise extreme caution. Marine advisories could be issued on Tuesday.
