Thanks for participating once more in WEEKEND FUN. Some of you who got it right were able to provide some additional, informative details about the photo. The highlighted ‘legendary son of the soil’ is indeed Dominica’s deceased cadence-lypso icon, Jeff Jo.
It was a photo of the Dominica Grammar School Cadet Corps taken in the early seventies and we’ve received help in identifying the following persons in the photo. In the front row from left to right: Felix Gregoire, Allan Paul, Curtis Shillingford, (First name unknown – Riviere, Jeff Jo, Davidson Riviere, Gerald Corbette. In the back row are: (first two not identified), Francis Richards (third from left), Dave Bruney(with face only showing), Samuel Christian, Marjel Durand.
We welcome any information which would enable identification of those who still remain unnamed.
We are also taking this opportunity to inform you that we have included on the WCMF page on DNO, a photo gallery dedicated to the late Jeff Jo, entitled “Remembering Jeff Jo”. It consists of a compilation of never-seen-before photographs taken by Francis Richards.
The WCMF Page on DNO can be accessed through the “WCMF” button on the menu bar on any page of the website or through a banner at the top right side of the DNO Home Page.
Edison in this picture? none of these guys were school mates of Edison by the time this pic was taken in the early 70’s Edison had already graduated from University.
well well well u dominican can be so funny at times. I alwas have a smile on my face whan is read this coments. waypapa
To the left of Allan Paul is not Curtis Shillingford, that’s Adler Hamlet with “Engine” Riviere next to him. And Davidson “Ringo” Riviere is next to Corbette
That is Curtis Shillingford, Adler Hamlet though he was a cadet at the time is not in the picture.
Fist in the back row is Mellitus “Mello” Pascal and to Jeff Jo’s left is Clem Harve
Good memoir. Boots on the ground proved to be productive.
Great work DNO. Nice tribute to my brother Jeff. Its good to see the shining boots, well-starched uniforms and immaculate posture. No wonder we used to outclass the Police and Defence Force at National Day Parades in those days. Picture was shot at the Portsmouth Secondary School.
Jeff remained a true Cadet until the end and always saluted the Sergeant Major seen at no.1 on the front row from the left. May His Soul continue to rest in Peace.
edison james in boys scout
Interesting photo: Two of the persons in the pic turned out to be musicians in the formative years of Cadence (Jeff-Jo of Gramacks and Riviere from Liquid Ice); a PS/Cab Sec/Ambasador-soon-to-be; the current Commandant of the Dominica Cadet Corps; a politician. I also see Majel Durand, “Gewa” Corbet from Possie; Christian, Harve from Newtown.
chupes
dont put our clem harve in allu stupidness with edison
original grammacks member in North America- This is Jeff. Thank You. Henson Rodney(drummer)is also there.
definitely Edison james, the nose still the same size, it didnt decrease or increase.
That’s how the european sterotpe all black people for having big noses.
i can bet the last one to the right is Mr. Robin
welsworth christian deceased .

Jeff Joseph…
idk but it looks like they’re in Portsmouth Secondary School, standing besides one of those buildings we now call “fowl cage”
Who cares!!
Skerrit in Labour Party uniform
this is Vince Hendeson of senjo in the scout troupe
this was my first pick as well
O.J. Seraphine
papi that there.
The late Pierre Charles (me too) was a member of the SMA Cadet Corps in the early 70’s, but the face certainly doesn’t look like his. I’d go with Edison, then. Big up “Jean Marigot”.
eddison james went to high school in the 60’s not the 70’s.
50’s 60’s england lol not so young to have been in high school in 60’s no way.
Edison James returned from England and taught at the SMA in the late 60s.
But Dominicans not easy nuh. Where all you seeing Eddison James nose from here?
lol
Jefferson Joseph aka Jeff Jo/Ras Maf/Formee. RIP Brother!
Here is my analysis of the people in the photo. I dont think the guy is Hon. Edison James because the timeline with other clearly identifiable people in the pic does not add up. Irvin Watty is there but the Cadet standing infront of him may not be Creswell Lawrence because Watty was with the DGS Cadets and Lawrence was with the SMA Cadets and this pic was likely taken before the merger of the SMA and DGS Cadets into the Dominica Cadet Corps.
The guy at the back does look like Richo but the ranks do not add up. Richo was always senior to Watty and Lawrence but his position in the double rank files indicate that he is junior to the guys with the sashes. So I conclude that’s not Richo. For those who identified Earl “Bull Head” Joseph, I say “he was not in that era”. Earl joined later that the timeline in the pic.
I have to conclude that the person with the arrow is not the former Prime Minister. If he was a Cadet, it would have predated the photo.
I think I can identify Davidson Riviere and Clifford Cuffy. The tall guy may be Allan Paul. I still do not know who the legendary son of the soil is.
Mr. Hector Rawl
This is former PM Edison James, I am 100% sure from my sources…
Edison was not attending DGS at the time, he had long graduated.
folks the description of the picture says it all, legendary Dominican. It has to be Jeff Joe, while some of you may feel Edison James is legendary, I doubt DNO would go so far in their descriptions… Jeff Joe, Clem Harve for sure
This is Jeff Joseph of st Joseph…
Pic looks like it was taken at Londonderry Youth Camp.
I think I recognize Davidson Riviere in the front row – second from the right.
My Grandfather
This photo was taken 1970-1971 at Londondery..Youth Camp center. Gregoire, Allick Paul, Curtis Shillingford, Abraham Edwards, Jeff Joe, Clem Harve, Dave Riviere, Corbette, Rodney Joseph, Christian, Bruney, Capt. Richards, Alexander and Henson from Grammacks.
first name that came to mind was Edison James and that look like by the airport in Marigot back in the days, with all those coconut trees at the back ;)
This is really true!!! IT IS EDISON JAMES!! … Well I knew The late Pierre Charles was a member of Cadet Corps but then I thought hold up the person has a big nose so that can’t be Mr Charles… IT IS MR. James… His face didn’t change much at all lol wow!
Men,that’s Jeff Joseph, had that pic before !!
R.I.P BRO !!
This is the late Jeff Joe. Abraham Edwards and Clem Harve to his left and right.
My first guess former PM Mr. Eddison James
I think it is the late Jeff Joseph from St. Joseph and to his immediate left the late Earl Joseph of Winston Lane, Goodwill. The gentleman on the extreme right front row is Cresel Lawrence (Master Chen Brother) from Kennedy Avenue, Roseau for sure.
I can make out Creswell Lawrence standing in front of Irvin Watty. Earl “Bull Head” Joseph is in the front row. But the guy with the arrow beats me.
Bondiey….Hon. Edison James….face didn’t change much
Skerrit
Eddison James in Dominica Cadet Corps
As a former member of this prestigous organisation,(The Dominica Cadet Corps) this was not in my time, I can identify Captain Richards at the back of the individual, this person looks like Mr. Edidson James; I hope I am right. Didn’t know Mr. James was a Cadet, need to ask him to do an about turn.
Angelo Alleyne
Thats Edison James next to him is a padna name fran dods tele.
You lie!
DOMINICA CADET CORPS
vince henderson st.joe scout troop
I did not see that one coming. LMAO!! Lol
Looks like Russel or Gabriel Christian
Jeff jo!! Rest in peace.
Johnson JohnRose
I think this is Edison James or Bonty in The Dominica Cadet Corps (circa 19??).
There is a resemblance of Patrick John, but the individual is too tall and the nose and mouth……might say more?
Its just a hunch.
Mr. Eddison James.. And the group is the Dominica Cadet Crops
The Blue Arrow gave it away….but Legendary…Magwasah
Edison that there.
Who is he? and what year was that taken?
papa met…. not ask they ask u to name him? u still asking who is he. just make a guess and hope u get it right, then u’ll know for sure on monday. hmmmm.
