Weekes says award is encouraging

Police Inspector Claude Weekes

Chief Police Prosecutor and Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Claude Weekes has said that a recent award from local media company SAT Telecommunication Ltd. has only giving him the verve to continue to serve his country.

Weekes was voted as the company’s  Most Influential Person of 2010 and presented with an award last week at the company’s office during a small ceremony.

He was selected out of a list of 10 candidates which included Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Tiyani Behanzin, Mc Carthy Marie, Father Franklyn Cuffy, Mathias Peltier Jr. Sam Rafael, Nathalie Murphy and Magistrate Gloria Augustus.

The general public, in December 2010, were required to vote for whom they believed to be the most influential for the year.

“I am very deeply humbled by having been selected. … I am indeed gratified, but I must give my God all the glory and honour…the police job is a thankless job. It is a challenging job and especially the paradigmic shift with respect to policing, globally speaking, and to continue with that kind of energy…I take great passion in  executing my function, and I’ll continue to serve the people of Dominica as a servant of the state my duty as public relations officer and also as senior prosecutor,” he said.

Weekes is convinced that “God has strategically placed me in the police force to make that kind of contribution to make a difference in the lives of people.”

He said that he executed his functions in an atmosphere of turbulence over the years, citing that last year was a rough year.

A police officer for over 27 years, Weekes has worked in almost every department in the police service, including drug squad, Instructor at the police training base in Morne Bruce and the top official in the Criminal Investigations Department.

He told Dominica News Online that apart from performing his duties with the force, he is a devoted evangelist.

Weekes, recently studied Human Resource Planning and Development in India. He has also studied Public Administration, National Security and Strategic Studies at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus in Jamaica.

Country- man please accept my heartiest congratulation on your recent selection as the Country Most Influential Person. As you may be aware I am a long-time follower of your work and I am so proud that the country recognized your effort and talent. In fact I believe that your selection for the other prize (COP) is due although I could be considered biased because I recruited you to the Service. Claude once again my sincere congratulations on your selection and if you permit me I will glow with the pride you brought to your family and my adopted village.

Well my dear brother you are having a great time…….wow…I notice everyone is singing your praises but if only they new the true person behind the impression and the Queen’s english.

My dear brother I would have been very proud of you and would personnelly congratulate you, only if you would have been so true and honest to your family as you try to impress the public. Only if you would have put in a little effort in loving and treating your family rightly ..(Mother, 2 Children, 1 brother, 1 sister and 2 grandchildren) You give such a good public impression about mum… your love for her and all…what a joke…I know and you very well know that it is all a charm and a very impressive attempt to portrait yourself as the loving and only son who loves his mum so much.

The lastest stunt and level of dishonesty and delibrate attempt to rob us (brother and sister) for your benefit of mum care is the worst you could ever pull……
time and space won’t permit me to outline all of it.

God is watching and we are able to fool some people but it is only for a time.

Congratulations big bro on your successful good and popular impressions over the years. You are so good you are being awarded for it.. well done.

This is wrong… wrong is wrong, no matter who does it.

    I am listening and watching.

Your statement is in VERY POOR TASTE. I sense also a fair bit of jealousy in your tone. Stop in your attempt to malign one police officer who is doing his job & working hard for the state. If the man has done wrong as you claim there is a better way, please find it & get a life as well!

Allow me to add my congratulations to you my former partner in fighting crimes. Do what you have to do but do not forget that the same people who are singing your praises will be the said ones who will want to crucify you later. Typical Dominicans” Every body have their opinion and we have to respect their opinion but most of the people critizing Carrette do not have a clue who Carrette is and what he stand for and the contribution he has rendered to the Police Force and Dominica by extention knowing Carrette as i do those critics of him is like water running off a Dog`s back. My boy i realized some how you already carry the Chief” title to your name? but pray that the people you beat to receive that recognition look pass that when and if your name is submitted one day to take us to the next level. But enjoy it while you`re alive all the best to you and God`s speed to your mom as well. PEACE!!.

Mr. Weekes, I am very proud of you. This is a good accomplishment. I have always echoed that you would make a far better commissioner than Mr. Carrette. This is my opinion.

I wonder what was the criteria for the selection?

Well, no matter the criteria, you have received your bouquet of flowers and that’s good. Congratulations once again. I hope more police officers would at least learn some ethics from you.

    Thanks for reading my people.

Keep your Head up my brother, Good things come to those who wait. With what is happening in the Force, you will soon be elevated after the polygraphic test take place at the top . When it comes around, make sure you are the first one to good for it while the others will be trambling because they are not clean especially the two at the top. I did it twice and it’s not easy . So once again bro from ST.PAUL ( The vibrant parish) you will go up high in the Force the calling is there for you. Like me I took before I was promoted. So bro Hearts of to you and the family and do what you are doing best.

Here it is we have a man qualified to head the police department in Dominica and instead they bouncing him around like a ping pong ball. Now what is sad and disturbing is the fact that the acting commissioner has been a major embarrassment to law enforcement in Dominica. Why do we have an acting commissioner when clearly Mr Weeks is the man for the job. Do we need consultant Parry Bellot to tell us that?
I do hope that minister Collin Mc I retract the statement he made regarding professional and qualified resource personnel in Dominica.

Congratulations Sir, You are getting your flowers while you are alive, so that’s good. While you remain a part of the police force hope remains! I have listened to you several times on the radio, discussing police matters and the way you explain and express yourself is admirable. Keep the faith and keep trusting in the Lord. You are not only a role model to fellow police officers but your fellow citizens. You are the type of character we should have as police commissioner not that dumba$$ Carrette…poor DA, what a damm shame

I have thought about it over and over and over again, and for the life of me I can’t understand how somebody with a brain could overlook you for Mr Carrette. Mr. Carrette, is an embarrasment to Dominica. He can’t speak, can’t articulate, he has no foresight, I just don’t get it. After listening to Mr. Carrette, it really seems like anybody else could do a better job than him, how sad. What makes matters worse is his arrogance. He needs to change. It is high time politics take a back seat to common sense when making appts in the public service…the public service commission as usual is found wanting – well there’s a serious political breach there…and the system is flawed, what a joke!! When will we as a people put politics aside and do what’s best for the country as a WHOLE?

I truly support your comments in the second paragraph. I wonder what was the criteria for the selection. I personally think there is too much political interference in the process of selection of vacant positions. Not sure how i would term Carrette performance on the job; but for his speaking, i think he needs to improve, and he has to be much more diplomatic and professional…………
I take this opportunity to applaud Mr. Weekes on his recognition!
