Western Union in Dominica could be back in operation by next week

The Western Union office is located in this building in Roseau

If you are a Western Union customer who has been affected by the closure of that service over the past several days, relief could come next week.

For the past two weeks, the public has not been able to send or receive money via that money transfer service, a situation which has caused some inconvenience for Western Union customers on the island.

Dominica News Online (DNO) has learned that the service could resume sometime next week.

H.H.V. Whitchurch & Co. Ltd is the agent for Western Union in Dominica and last week DNO contacted Marketing Manager, Michelle Joseph, in an attempt to get some information on the situation. She told us that she was unable to comment on the matter and directed us to a notice on the door of the office of Western Union.

The notice, with an apology from management, read, “due to technical difficulties Western Union is currently not operational until further notice”.

When asked how soon one could expect the service to be restored, Joseph was not able to say.

We also understand that the two other Western Union branches on the island which are located at Marigot and Portsmouth, have also been affected.

Last week, we encountered some concerned customers, some of whom expressed the view that the issue was a local one and was not because of any problem with the operation of Western Union internationally. One customer told us that her relative who lived overseas had encountered no difficulty in sending money via Western Union from his country of residence.

But some relief does appear to be in sight for persons who have been waiting anxiously for the Western Union service in Dominica to resume because when DNO staffers called the local office on Monday and again this morning, we were told that operations could resume by next week.

Red Clinic and Western Union is the only line of income these DLP beggars have. No surprise they keep voting for their king. These people have no shame!!!

@Eddy A, how do you compare Red Clinic with Western Union as the line of income in Dominica. Don’t you know what the service of Western Union is about?

Well, I will tell you. Western Union is the financial agent that receives money from us, who live in the diaspora to help our people in Dominica. We contribute to the economy by doing so. It is nothing compared to the Red Clinic–know your facts before you speak

Well, I hope that they do, because it is the Christmas season, and we, overseas would like to help our people to enjoy the festive season in the best way we can.

Yes, this is a local issue, because the Western Money Mart which I use is in full operation.

A service like that should not become crippled–they are the best and fastest for an emergency–two weeks and more is a very disturbing and even careless situation from a service like that.

You help? What for? I thought that’s the responsibility of the new King of DA. Furthermore, you’ve got nothing to help in the first place… living of the welfare in Canada!

That’s not good enough I send money to Dominica on 03/12/2019
and when my friend went to get it she was told they don’t know when it will be back in-service I contacted the western union here in the us and was told that the service in Dominica was suspended
they did not give me any further information but I know for a fact that Whitchurch know more than they are telling customers its a shame that people have to put up with this
