Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said that construction of the new Marigot Hospital is expected to begin this year and funds from the Citizenship by Investment Program (CBI) will be used for the project.
“And so what we have done as a government, is to explore an alternative means of using our own resources to construct the Marigot Hospital and that’s what we’ve done,” the prime minister stated. “I want to say to the country that we now have in hand, completed set of designs, drawings for the Marigot Hospital and we will commence the construction of the Marigot Hospital this year.”
The government of Mexico has committed five million US dollars for the facility but the funds have not been made available.
“Utilising the Citizenship By Investment Program to help finance the hospital, our hope is that we could utilize the five million US dollars from the Mexican government once they agree because they have to agree to help equip the hospital and so there will be no question about this government’s commitment to the hospital,” he explained.
The Prime Minister said the Marigot Hospital project is a critical for the Marigot Health District and the government understands its importance.
“Mr. Linton has been trying to use this as a scapegoat as a means of trying to create unnecessary anarchy and disruptions in the village of Marigot, but the Marigot Hospital is the project that is critical for the whole Marigot Health District and we understand the importance of it and so that hospital will be constructed and CBI funded. I am hoping that this year we will see commencement of the hospital,” he stated.
Funds have been allocated for the project in the 2019-2020 budget which will be presented in Parliament this morning.
