Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has reassured the public that his government will receive a replacement for Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM).
In August 2018, RUSM announced that it would be shutting down its operation in Dominica and would be operating in Barbados from January 2019.
RUSM was located in Portsmouth and was a huge source of income for the island’s second town for the past 40 or so years.
“I trust in the Lord and I am confident and I will give more details later this week, but I am confident that we will get a replacement for Ross University and that replacement would be even better than what we had with Ross for so many years,” the prime minister said during his one-on-one Annou Pale talk show on Sunday night.
According to Skerrit, the new school will be approached through a partnership where the government will own a percentage of the school.
“If the partner decides to leave, like Ross did, they won’t go with the school. The school will remain for the people of Dominica,” he stated. “So if the partner decides to leave, the school will stay, the name will stay and we will simply get somebody to operate it.”
The prime minister said the school’s accreditation will not be affected because it will be functional.
“It will be an ongoing business,” he declared.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, following a recent visit to the UAE and Pakistan, that he had visited a university “that has interest in Dominica.”
The prime minister’s disclosure came in the wake of reports which appeared in Pakistani media while he was in that country, that Dominica had entered into an agreement with Rawal Institute of Health Sciences (RIHS) to open Rawal International University Dominica in this country.
The prime minister, however, did not specifically indicate if an agreement had been made with that institution to set up a university in Dominica.
In 2014, the Malaysian-based Limkokwing University published an article on its website saying it had signed an MOU with Dominica to establish an international campus of the university on the island.
The article said both Dominica and the university, “aspire to create a new kind of campus which will be a unique and cutting-edge University campus specializing in travel, tourism and hospitality management and other disciplines that will contribute greatly to the ongoing social and economic transformation of Dominica.”
The article said the MOU was signed by a delegation headed by Emmanuel Nanthan with Dato’ Gail Phung, Limkokwing University’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Development.

You know the reason he keep on harassing Lennox is because when they both live on Steber Street, while Lennox lived with his parents who were school principles, and had plenty of everything, that little dog boy father abandoned him, with somebody who had a shop and went England.
Perhaps the dog was always hungry and might have barked at Lennox, and the King Lennox might have bashed the dog long mouth, since then he holds a vendetta against Lennox.

The only thing that can ‘replace’ Ross at the Ross University campus site in Dominica is Ross University itself.
If y’all think universities does just leave their home country – where the bulk of their student population come from – to go operate in a foreign country just so, y’all are sorely deceived. People should find out why medical schools like Ross are operating in the Caribbean instead of in the USA – the main source of their students. Schools like Ross are unique and DOMINICA SHOULD NEVER HAVE LOST IT!!!
By the way, I’m of the view that the complete story behind this Ross departure to Barbados has not yet been told.
This statement by the double doctorate dude is an admission that what he declared would be an easy task to find a replacement for RUSM is much more difficult than he can pull off. Since 2018 when the “all knowing, all talking” faux doctorate dude, spoke to the folks in Portsmouth that it would be easy to replace ROSS, he has told the Dominican people of numerous selected candidates who will fill the void, but alas they have turned out to be duds. The dude says that the school will be functional so accreditation won’t be an issue. What’s he talking about? Because an education institution is functioning doesn’t mean it’s accredited. Some fail to maintain their accreditation because they don’t meet certain criteria. It’s clear that the dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The same way we were promised many times that we’ll have an international airport, and we still don’t have one is the same thing with the replacement for RUSM. Keep on promising you “Liar in chief”.

What a delusional character!! The school is not the infrastructure. It is the people and professionals who bring the intangibles. That is thier brains and determination. If your are so confident you can run a school if one left why not start one now. I thought just a few weeks ago you signed agreement for a school. With all the MOUs you signed plus the 4 schools that were begging to come you must have a real hard time making a decision as to which one you selected. Seems like you have too many options. Only a fool would allow an established institution to leave and now grabbing at straws to try bring similar to what you let go. It is either that or your level of contempt hatred and treachery towards the people of Dominica is diabolical in comparison. Keep searching!!!
