The most recent information from the Dominica Meteorological Office indicates that at 5pm, Tropical Storm Bret was located about 516 miles east south east of Dominica, moving westward at about 15mph. The track and intensity forecasts are projecting for the centre of Bret to move across the Lesser Antilles over the islands just south of Dominica, as a tropical storm overnight Thursday. Bands ahead of the storm are expected to begin affecting portions of the region tonight.
An increase in cloudiness, showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over Dominica tomorrow, particularly during the afternoon, with conditions deteriorating further, overnight. People in areas prone to flooding should exercise some caution in isolated events.
Flood watches and/or warnings will be issued as conditions warrant.
Moderate to rough seas are anticipated during the next 24 hours, with waves along the eastern coast increasing to 8.0ft tonight and to 12.0ft tomorrow.
Residents should closely monitor Tropical Storm Bret and ensure that their hurricane season plans are ready for activation to protect life, property and livelihood.
