Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) hosted its end-of-program event for cohorts one and two under the Global Green Growth Institute Entrepreneur Initiative. GGGI is a treaty-based international intergovernmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing and emerging countries.
The beneficiaries of this program were Mr. Athalie George – Twin Islet Productions, Mr. Kayle James – KJ Nutrition, Ms. Nadia Thomas – Frying Pan Productions, and Ms. Lana Athanaze – Eclat Nova Luxuries.
General Manager of DEXIA, Paula Platsko, said in November 2021 GGGI partnered with the Dominica Export Import Agency, DEXIA which led in-country support to the existing GGGI, OECS, and Eastern Caribbean green entrepreneurship initiative.
She said DEXIA’s main objective was to facilitate and provide technical support, communications, and institutional support to raise awareness of GGGI initiative, identify and mobilize coaches, mentors, subject matter experts, and potential programs in addition to organizing and hosting networking events.
“DEXIA worked closely with the GGGI team under the leadership and guidance of the Caribbean program officer to ensure that the outputs were delivered in accordance with the key performance indicators,” Platsko.
She added, “GGGI initiative is very relevant and timely intervention in Dominica, as Dominica’s policies namely the national resilience development strategy and the climate resilience and recovery plan are geared towards achieving poverty reduction, food security, social development, improving the conditions of women and youth whilst promoting sustained inclusive and sustainable growth.”
The DEXIA manager said part of the agency’s current work program includes creating an enabling environment where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and micro-SMEs can thrive and develop themselves into sustainable enterprises.
“The government of Dominica through its policies will promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation and encourage the formalization and growth of micro [businesses] including access to financial services,” she explained.
She said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business Trade and Energy, and DEXIA is proud of Dominica’s achievements thus far with the program and look forward to many Dominican MSME’S benefiting in cohort three.
Unlike IBO,Francisco and St.Jean who wasted their young days working in,and for a foreign country, the youths in Dominica are moving on.
