St. Lucia continued their dominance in the 2023 Windward Islands Senior Women 50-Overs Cricket Tournament when they inflicted a crushing 189-run defeat on St. Vincent & The Grenadines at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground on Easter Monday.
Sent in, and after a relatively slow start, St. Lucia totalled 268 for 5 on the back of an opening stand of 143 between skipper Malika Edward (62 with eight fours from 103 balls) and Namiah Marcellin (68 with nine fours from 104 balls).
This was their second century opening partnership in as many matches.
Qiana Joseph, who had a reprieve before she had scored, ended up with an unbeaten 61 from 45 balls with nine fours. She shared a 5th wicket stand of 37 with Nerissa Crafton, who produced a crunching 9-ball 28 that was packed with five fours and the only six of the match.
A challenging 269-run target set, St. Vincent & The Grenadines collapsed in spectacular fashion and were bowled out for an abysmal 79 in 24.3 overs – the lowest total in the tournament to date. The only resistance coming from skipper Jannillea Glasgow (34) and Kimone Homer (17), who shared a third-wicket stand of 26. No other batter reached double-figure scores.
Zaida James was superb during her spell from the Pavilion End as she ripped through the opposition’s middle and lower order. Unrelentingly accurate, the left-arm spinner finished with the incredible figures of 5 Overs, 2 Maidens, 6 Runs, 5 Wickets.
Left-arm seamer, Selena Ross picked up 2 for 14 from her 5 overs.
Final Scores:
St. Lucia Senior Women 268 for 5 in 50 overs.
St. Vincent & The Grenadines Senior Women 79 all out in 24.3 overs.
