About Me: Currently I am Dominica’s youngest worker within the field of Journalism. (Call me the islands youngest journalist). I am now host to one of the island’s main talk programs. This journey for me commenced some 11 years ago as one of the nation’s voice of the youth. I then moved on to take on the roll some five years later as a radio presenter for popular national youth radio program, Youth Vibes.
In this journey I have made considerable strides as I regularly consult with other practitioners both in the field and from a variety of other fields to help create for myself an opportunity to thrive. Prior to this current position as a radio announcer/radio talk show host, I created and led a strategy team to influence the positive revitalization of the Methodist Youth and Young Adults Commission to which I was nominated and elected President.
Raised in Marigot, Dominica, and a native of neighboring community Wesley, I now spend most of my time in my new area of residence Roseau. Work permitting I quickly return to the village that has built me. I received the honor of addressing the islands youth in 2009 as the speaker at the National Youth Rally held to commemorate the island’s independence and also a honor as part of events to mark the celebration of 250 years of Methodism. Soon I will relinquish my roll as President of the Methodist Youth Commission, making way for one of my other colleagues . In the coming year, I will serve as a honorary Commission member within the church, where I will also be advisor to the new president.
Socially I would call myself a social butterfly, but not the one that (befriends someone but then runs off as soon as someone cooler comes along.) Recently I launched this Events Development Coordination and Promotion Team Tribal services with the hope of changing the way and quality of entertainment being offered on the northeastern part of the island.
I believe that regardless of the negatives that surround I build myself based on the traditional values embedded in my family (the Bruno’s ) history. I take community seriously and have overtime grown weary of the fact that our male population is slowly depleting. As such I mentor a number of the young men in my community so too do the daughters of the community stand to benefit from this process. In the end it’s writing the history that was spoken of by the older heads of my family. Etana “The Strong One” tells us “we owe nobody nothing but love” – likewise I believe.
Future Goals: Pursuing finally (all bugs worked out) at tertiary education with a minor in Mass Media Communications and most importantly a major in theology.

Alvin, this is truly a wonderful feild that you have set your endeavors, for it is one that you will be either loved or hated for being a part of disseminating information. Accept the flowers with humility, and be wary of the thorns that come along as well. For in this, the criticizm levelled from all angles will definitely make you stronger and much more professional in searching for the facts prior to your presentations. There may be many stories, but there is and always will be but one truth; and that should be your primary focus, guided by the only one with the authority to judge, The Most High. By the contex of this message, you surely know who this is coming from.
when kimberly benjamin of Q95 was personality of the week no one complained about her qualifications of being a journalists, why are u giving this young black man a hard time? If it was a woman, though matter what she posted up there u would give her praises. women are not the only one who needs words of encouragement so leave him alone and accept his contribution to the country you dam paro.
when kimberly said she was a jounalist no one questioned her qualifications , so why question the young man , stop being a sexist and give the young man a break and if you can,t say antthing good shut up and go and pay you light bill thats 2 months
@reality check: May i Say to you that i have no use for any agenda besides the one i set myself. may i inform you that i am quite comfortable living knowing that the creator is my guide and guard.
if you are not aware i boast the fact that i am one of Dominica’s youngest Journalist because i learnt, and still am learning from the very best , you should note too that i was the result of A great team of friends, Co workers Masters in the industry and so much more i am being educated and will continue to be , in another forum your suggestion would be timely , its certainly not in this since you are suggesting what is already apart of a daily process.
interestingly you have noted that i lack lack the ability and the ethics at this point in time but you never said to do what, for me Democracy depends on citizens having reliable, accurate facts put in a meaningful context. Journalism does not pursue truth in an absolute or philosophical sense, but it can–and must–pursue it in a practical sense.
This “journalistic truth” is a process that begins with the professional discipline of assembling and verifying facts. Then journalists try to convey a fair and reliable account of their meaning, valid for now, subject to further investigation. Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information. Even in a world of expanding voices, accuracy is the foundation upon which everything else is built–context, interpretation, comment, criticism, analysis and debate. The truth, over time, emerges from this forum. As citizens encounter an ever greater flow of data, they have more need–not less–for identifiable sources dedicated to verifying that information and putting it in context. with this responsibility i am never one who does not source the right information it has already being said by the players who take interest in the story .
as you quite correctly said There are many uneducated Dominicans who trust that persons in these posts are qualified and therefore trust the information being delivered falls within journalistic protocol/standards. .and so you should note that with or without this qualification it is still up to any normal citizen/media worker to keep alive the protocols of the journalistic movement ——one of the world well known news anchors had no degree in the field yet he survived because he loved the job and he kept alive the protocol
Sela
alvin, i occasionally listen to you on kairi, and you are trying which is commendable. but please, please do not fall into the category of most of the ‘talk show host’ in dominica, by simply saying ‘thank you listener’, if that’s all one have to say, we can train a parrot to say ‘thank you listener’. but instead engage your callers in a debate, challenge and ask pertinent questions, which make more interesting listening. read up on current affair and also on the subject matter being debated, and please no more ‘persons’ singular person, plural people. and also instead of the constant overuse of the word ‘persons’, which drives me mad, think of other words, i.e. listeners, individuals, population, community etc the list is endless use some imagination. this is not just aimed at you but most of the radio host in dominica, which i think boils down to pure laziness and a refusual to use their god given intelligence.
good luck in your endevours, you are young enough to offer something better than which is being offered on the radio at the moment.
dont give up,good talk host on kairi, you just need to pretend you are labour and you will get through,i like it when you say edison james is your mentor.long live marigot massive, the headquarters of the U.W.P.
@Serene: Fragment in spanish……revise please
@reality check: people like you will always and never move from comfort zone which is the pit I just dont understand why you fail to encourage a young brother instead you try to teat him down no wonder the young people just dont have no use for folks like you if you cannt lift them up please dont tear them down allow them to make a name for themself Alvin would be the first one to tell you that he have a lot to learn and a long way to go so stop dumping on him there are those of us who believe in him and wish him all the best.
Go Alvin go.
Congratulations are in order u have been doing very well and I pray that the good LORD will continue to guide u for he is the only one that can make it happen for u so dont forget that he is your strength and shelter, I would also suggest that u take all the negative remarks and let them work for u do not give into them because u know who holes your hands, the sky is the limit but it can only be accomplished thru the Lord Jesus Christ so always put him first in every thing u do ..As your Aunt I will always be proud of u but I dont want u ever to walk away from your religious up bringing or your chruch, family, or friends, and never stop reaching out to those u have meet along the way.
You have been given a chance to be the best reporter @reality check: u can ever be just never conpromise yourself or your ethic just take your time and learn.
God bless u my brother.
You always aimed to stand out Alvin & You did; congrats young man; keep reaching for everything above the stars

A step in the right direction with the personalities we are now show casing on this medium.
I am very proud to be from this great land and proud to read of others who aspire to do good.
I have never had the opportunity to meet this week’s personality of the week but would like to take the time to wish him all that is good in the future and may his passion continue to drive our people forward.
Don’t mix the creator with your puppet agenda.
You certainly need to be educated in the field you are trying to boast about.
There in a great deal of responsibility needed in journalism and you lack the ability and the ethics at this point in time.
There are many uneducated Dominicans who trust that persons in these posts are qualified and therefore trust the information being delivered falls within journalistic protocol/standards. .
