UWP ELECTION PAGE: Citizens group declares evidence of electoral fraud; names of those accepting bribes being publicized

voter-fraudThe Citizens Forum for Good Governance has begun publicising the names of persons who they claim have accepted bribes and tickets from the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) to come to Dominica to vote at the December 08 General Elections.

Already, Atherton Martin, on behalf of the group, has read the names of 18 such persons via Q95 Radio. He has also warned that such persons will pay the price for their actions aimed at rigging the elections and stealing the democratic franchise of Dominicans.
Martin warned that videos and photos will be taken of those who are here to vote illegally and improperly. Such videos and photos will be published and distributed globally and will be sent to the appropriate authorities such as the United States Department of State and the United States Embassy in Barbados.

Other sources report that the Inland Revenue Service, (IRS) would also have an interest in such persons, since failure to report such income could be a financial crime, both on the part of the receiver and the giver or agent.
Martin said the group’s job is to prevent the rigging of elections and violation of electoral laws.

INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES
Further, Martin revealed that the DLP has been contacting persons and offering them between $20, 000 and $50, 000 to run as independent candidates in certain constituencies. Martin explained that the plan is that the votes against the DLP would be split, thereby favouring that party.

So far, the Citizens Forum for Good Governance has two such names but Martin said he understands that five such persons have been approached in a pre-poll attempt to divert votes from the Opposition and steal the election for the ruling party.
He said that once it is confirmed that these persons are not genuine independents and have agreed to accept bribes and act on behalf of the DLP, then their names would also be publicized.

Additionally, Martin said there is video and photo evidence of the DLP candidate of the Kalinago Territory walking beside a flatbed truck of lumber and offering the lumber as bribes to the members of the community. Describing this as open bribery and an open violation of electoral laws of country and the recently signed Code of Conduct, Martin said the DLP is carrying out similar action in almost every Constituency.
According to Martin, the evidence from the Kalinago Territory has been sent to the Christian Council which spearheaded the Electoral Code of Conduct. The footage will also be broadcast on Marpin Channel 12, he assured.

He noted that attempts to undermine Dominica’s democracy must be arrested.
Further, Martin questioned why a political party would be interested in stealing an election and not allowing due process in an electoral democracy to unfold. He said that if the DLP style of governance is to throw money at a problem, bribe, steal and engage in illegal activities, then they would have lost all credibility as a government and the right to form one. Martin said the DLP is aware that many of their wrong doings have been discovered and as such, they would have to have to face legal implications under a new government.

“They are scared to death…they are scared of the implications…” he said.

Meanwhile, candidate for the Grand Fond Constituency, Dr Thomson Fontaine noted that there are signs of increasing desperation on the part of the DLP. He expressed concerns that independent overseas observers such as the OAS and Carter Centre have not been invited for the General Elections up to when checks were made early this week. Dr Fontaine said the UWP had made representation for the Carter Centre to be invited as an election observer. The UWP is therefore worried about irregularities in the form of bribery of individuals to come to Dominica to vote.
Dr Fontaine said that those who accept such bribes have disqualified themselves from voting. Others who have not been residing here for the last five consecutive years, are also being brought to vote, he said.

FAILED
Declaring that the Electoral Commission has failed Dominicans and has not done what it was being paid to do, Dr Fontaine said the office has had enough time to clean up the voters list and institute a voters i.d. card system to ensure free and fair elections in Dominica. He said the head of the Electoral Commission should take the responsibility for whatever happens at the election as they have not done what they should have. Dr Fontaine opined that the Commission has conspired with the DLP to steal the election.

Candidate for the Roseau South Constituency Joshua Francis said he is confident that the UWP will win and that there is divine intervention in the campaign. He said Dominicans understand that the UWP Team Dominica is the better alternative to take Dominica forward.
However, he noted the desperation on the part of the DLP in taking immoral and illegal actions to remain in power.
Francis said civil society and interest groups have positioned themselves to assist in preventing the DLP in its intentions to steal the elections.
He said Dominica needs to legislation in place to guard against such actions in the future.

Seriously, u got to be kidding me. Although i am not interested in politics, i have to say all u have time to go and inform irs right in america about all this nonsense. Man u all don’t have work to do. I have never heard that in my
Life. Domincans do not even have the power to put a stop to the things that are going on in their own country, they have to contact irs and immigration in the us .I guess alot of people will be stripped from their citizenship and green card. Well, this seem to b politics with consequences. And u all don’t realize all u jeopardizing dominica by doing this? Now we will be a red flag in these people books. Citizens , when d us put a ban on all u and don’t give all u visa in barbados, u know who to blame!

This article is pure nonsense. UWP is like the devil making people believe he does not exist while creating havoc. They spend 99% of their time blaming, accusing, proselytizing, promising, hating and making maypwi!
Yet they have done… nothing, they plant to do nothing and have really said … nothing. This Voters from US apparently that the only other place Dominicans live… is just trick to distract people and create false gossip. Its aimed at the small minded who need that gossip to keep them interested in their party. all this tells me is that UWP would be a disaster for DA simply based on how they perceive Dominicans as backward and gossip driven.

Athie also said that some people who are coming to vote are illegal residents of the US. Does that make any sense? They would not be able to return. Unless they have no intentions of returning, in which case who cares about the IRS. I am also curious as to why the assumption is that all returning voters are going to vote for the DLP? Once the person is in the ballot box who knows who they will vote for? Therefore all accusations are assumptions and cannot hold in a court of of law. Seems like Athie and his team can already smell defeat. Too bad. They had five years to prepare.

Matin are you for real? How can an independent candidate favour the labour party? By now every Dominican know who they are voting for,and the ones that are on the fence may just stay on the fence, especially with all that scare tatics you guys are putting out. Every Dominican have the right to excersise their patriotic  duty if they feel like, and untill you guys change the constitution it will remain that way. When the Fox cannot reach the grapes it claims that they are sour. The first political party to make provision for their supporters to come home to vote was the UWP. At the end of the day Dominicans are going to choose the right government to govern them and my pray for my beautiful country is that on Dec 9th we could all hold hands and form aring around our land for harmony to prevail over us all.

This article is not quite correct. In North America you can only vote if you are a citizen and have registered. People with green cards cannot vote in America. Eg; those of us who are citizens of the U.S. and reside in the VI or PR cannot vote where we riside and still vote in the states. So it’s hard for me to believe any sensible Dominician who is a citizen of the USA, living and voting in the USA would risk being arrested to vote in DA and still vote in the USA. Now even though you are a citizen and don’t vote in the USA, VI or PR, and you visit home/DA on a regular basis as long as you are not breaking the Laws of the land why can’t you vote for who ever you feel like voting for. And this thingy about the IRS I will research it before making any comment. By the way I am neither RED/BLUE/ nor GREEN. Just a DA citizen residing away from the Nature Isle.

This is the wrong way to rally a troup to support a Party, This is a bunch of compound nonsense!. Doesn’t US and other Citizens of the world vote by mailing their ballots? You want to win, talk about what your party is or can do to make things better on the Nature Isle.

I am so Disappointed in the entire UWP team, you mean to tell me there is no better way for these so call candidates to motivate , rally and convince the citizens to vote for them without all this childish rubbish?

What electoral fraud can there be fellahs? The election is on December 8 th, and already you all are being mischievous .This is unacceptable behaviour and that nonsense needs to stop.

“Again ” Dominican citizens no matter where in the world they reside , have a right and responsibility to their people, self and country to exercise that right and vote.

The DLP is displaying a much better behavioural attitude than team Dominica and it is sad.

At the end of the day my people , there can only be one party in power, but the important question we must all ask ourselves Is.
What are we as citizens prepared to do to join hands with the winning Government , to continue in the building and development of this great land?

I Suspect many of these so call candidates for the UWP who are seeking POWER , will flee to America, Canada and England when the dust settle and they have no jobs . I can already see it.

  18. November 19, 2014

When something is wrong it is wrong for all parties some are just more bold than others and we all know that for a fact.
Yolande don’t be so foolish and remember is better to be correct than to be sorry later.

Athie, put a sock on it. You and your associates are only doing more harm to the UWP. All your threats will only strengthen the support for the Dominica Labour Party, so go ahead, and keep crying sour grapes. After December 8, you all either stay mute with shame or continue by saying that Labour “thief” votes.

Colors are now showing, and expectations are not being realized, so here come the same old story of 2000,2005,2010 , it been heard and discarded. There is no traction in theses accusations, so why not attempt to convince the returning Dominicans to vote for you instead of threats to there status.
