The situation with the Big Bang gaming and lottery operation is the stuff that ‘vagabondry’ and corruption is made of.
So declared Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Lennox Linton at a press conference this week.
According to reports, Big Bang was granted a license under the operating name Eagle Sports Wagering. The license was granted to convicted money launderer, Julian Giraud. Government recently instructed the operator to close the entity.
Linton said this is a classic case of why the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) should not be allowed to continue running the affairs of Government.
He pointed out that the authority to operate was granted by the Prime Minister’s Office and allowed to operate for over a year. And one year later, it is being pointed out that the Prime Minister erred in granting the license.
While Government Minister Ambrose George signed the necessary documents as acting Prime Minister at the time, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is still responsible since the license was issued under the authority of his office.
“What was he (Skerrit) doing since then? Did he or did he not know?” Linton questioned.
Meantime, several commentators are asking what actually triggered the closure at this time. It is being widely speculated that Big Bang could have facilitated financing of the huge Dominica Labour Party $30M election campaign. Speculation is also rife as to whether the closure of Big Bang at this time, has to do with erasing the money trail of the Labour Party campaign financing.
