\"\"<\/a>Regarding the Vatican newspaper L\u2019Osservatore Romano giving its approval to the Blues Brothers Movie –\u00a0 June 19, 2010:<\/p>\n

In condoning\u00a0 The Blues Brothers\u00a0 – a\u00a0 movie laced with profanities\u00a0 and obscenities –\u00a0 L\u2019Osservatore Romano makes yet another silly attempt to be \u201crelevant\u201d to an international pop culture that is\u00a0 increasingly\u00a0\u00a0 decadent.<\/p>\n

While L\u2019Osservatore Romano\u00a0 is published by the Vatican Press Office, not everything in the paper – including editorial comments – necessarily reflect the “official” opinion of the Catholic Church. Statements from the Holy Father and Magisterial documents carry authoritative weight. Articles such as those about the The Blues Brother\u00a0 reflect the opinions only of the writers.<\/p>\n

Sadly, since Giovanni Maria Vian became the editor in chief of L\u2019Osservatore Romano a few years ago, the paper has become somewhat of an international scandal failing in its mission to stay\u00a0 faithful to the unchangeable principles of religion and morals.\u00a0 From Vian\u2019s infamous assertion that Barack Obama \u201cis not a pro-abortion president\u201d, to his attempted rehabilitation of Marxist pop guru John Lennon, the paper has become a sort of ecclesial jukebox filled with the songs of fools and offering scandal to the children of God.<\/p>\n

It behaves today less like a faithful papal defender and more like a rebellious teenager.<\/p>\n
