The FIFA-funded ‘Goal 2 Project’ located at Stockfarm is said to be 98 percent complete.<\/p>\n

The facility under construction consists of dress rooms for players, washrooms for both spectators as well as players, a drive through, parking areas, a temporary office for DFA officials among others.<\/p>\n

That project is being undertaken by the Dominica Football Association (DFA) in collaborations with the government of Dominica and cost in the region of US$250,000.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday members of the DFA along with contractors of that project gave media a tour of the facility which will be used for training, hosting FIFA games and also international games.<\/p>\n

The sitting capacity is said to be 1,500 to 2000 persons.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is about 98 percent completed and I am talking about the second phase of the Goal Project ….so we are expecting it to be completed in the next three weeks and maybe submit completion certificate to FIFA,\u201d DFA President, Glen Etienne, said while addressing a ceremony at the facility. \u201cAfter the completion of this phase we are expected to go into the lights of the facility and the grassing part of it. We should be ready to maybe kick a ball somewhere in August or September of this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

He revealed that this is the only DFA venue is actually fenced and which would give the association an opportunity to generate revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only for ourselves but we always want to generate some funds back to the club, so we have decided to give them a percentage from the game\u2026,\u201dhe explained.<\/p>\n

Meantime Sports Coordinator, Trevor Shillingford, said football will have a home of its own when the project is completed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis provides tremendous prospects for the development of the sport of football since the Dominica Football Association will now be in a position to generate some much needed revenue from the use of this facility,\u201d he stated. \u201cAlso it will provide an opportunity for our footballers to have a training facility year round where they can get the opportunity to improve on their various football skills.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shillingford said the project suffered a lot of setbacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt one point the project came to a complete standstill where there were some legal issues in terms of the certain name change that had to be made to the original contracts and we in the Ministry of Sports, we were happy to assist the football association with rectifying this problem by utilizing the services of the personnel from the Ministry of Legal Affairs,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

About 20 persons forms part of the contractor\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n
