Though the full brunt of Hurricane Earl were not felt here, coastal areas around the island were subject to the wrath of the 120 mph storm.<\/p>\n

Significant wave action could be seen and heard on the coastlines in several areas around the island, attracting a few onlookers.<\/p>\n

One of the more significant spectacles caused by the storm was seen near the Canefield cliff where three vessels- one of which was a Dominica Coast Guard vessel and another-a Venezuelan pirogue- were run aground, taking a serious pounding from the sea.<\/p>\n

The Venezuelan pirogue received a considerable amount of damage.<\/p>\n

According to officials, the boats had been anchored at the Marine Base in Fond Cole, but were not secured properly.<\/p>\n
