The Meteorological office is urging members of the public to exercise extreme caution when travelling the interior of the country as rivers both on the west and east coast are swollen due to a trough system affecting Dominica.<\/p>\n

Drivers travelling on the Belles and Macoucherie roads are being alerted to potential danger in those areas posed by rising water in the Belles River and water from the Macoucherie River has also forced its way onto the road in the vicinity of the distillery on Thursday<\/span><\/span> morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to encourage motorists and other people using these roads to exercise extreme caution in going through, at least if they have any doubts about crossing certain areas, because they should not attempt it especially if they have a small, light vehicle,\u201d Disaster Risk Management Consultant, Cecil Shillingford said while speaking on State-Owned Radio DBS.<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cMore in the interior of the country we saw a lot of heavy rains earlier this morning coming from the interior which has caused the rivers both on the west coast and the east coast to be swollen.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Shillingford, \u201cAlthough we saw a much improvement in the weather system yesterday [Wednesday<\/span><\/span>] and early this morning we are still under the influence of this trough system.\u201d<\/p>\n

He revealed that a lot of the other rivers along the west coast they are swollen, \u201cbut not really causing any problems at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

One mile in the Portsmouth area is also experiencing flooding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe should see some improvement as the day progress,\u201d Shillingford noted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
