Bert Williams of St. Vincent and Martin Luther Jno Baptiste of Newtown appeared before Magistrate Candia George this morning on a joint charge of burglary, while Eustace Joseph of Point Michel was charged with handling stolen goods.<\/p>\n
It is alleged that Williams and Jno Baptiste entered as trespassers and stole $17,130 in cash, $638.45 worth of groceries and a cell phone valued at $150 between 10:30 p.m. on November 19 and 3:30 p.m. on November 20,2010.<\/p>\n
The items belonged to Paul Green, the charge stated.<\/p>\n
Joseph was accused of handling $12,370 of the said cash.<\/p>\n
The men were not required to plea as the matters are indictable and are to be heard at the High Court of Justice following a preliminary inquiry.<\/p>\n
Bail was closed for Williams as he was considered a flight risk.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has no roots in Dominica\u2026 If he leaves and goes to St Vincent it will be very difficult to get him back in Dominica,\u201d the police prosecutor told the court in his objection to bail.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, bail was opened for Jno Baptiste. However, he could not supply the court with a proper surety – in his case a requirement. His father, who appeared at the court, said that he was not there to stand him bail.<\/p>\n
He was remanded at the state prison until next Thursday, when he will reappear at court.<\/p>\n
Joseph on the other hand was luckier. He was granted bail in the sum of $15,000 with a friend as surety. He is set to reappear in court on May 5, 2011.<\/p>\n
