Jerry Brisbane, proprietor of OD Brisbane & Sons Ltd, has taken legal action against Senior Information Officer for the Government Information Service (GIS), Mervin Paul, for slander.<\/p>\n

Paul allegedly slandered Brisbane on Kairi FM, saying Brisbane has shares in ACE Engineering, a claim AC has dismissed in a recent press conference.<\/p>\n

A November 23, 2010 letter from Brisbane\u2019s attorney Singoalla Blomqvist-Williams requested an apology from Paul.<\/p>\n

The letter, obtained by Dominica News Online, reads:<\/p>\n

Dear Sir<\/p>\n

I act for an am instructed by Mr. Jerry Brisbane of Mt. Desmoulin Eggleston, Dominica.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My client’s attention has been drawn to certain statements made by you on Kairi FM radio on the 10th November, 2010 and broadcast to the listening public.<\/p>\n

On the occasion aforesaid you made the following statement to my client:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“And a caller asked you this morning whether you have any shares in ACE Engineering and you said no. Well I can tell you and I am putting it to you, that there is enough evidence to the opposite, that you have interest in ACE Engineering and hence your reason for being so upset with all the projects that ACE Engineering did not receive because you felt that you were deprived of whatever monies you felt that would have been, this company would have made and when the time is right, that will be proven to you.”<\/em><\/p>\n

My client’s instructions are that he is not and has never been a shareholder of ACE Engineering and as such your statement constitutes a slander upon my client.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You were not concerned with the truth and the statement was made by you to deliberately portray my client as being dishonest, someone who cannot be trusted and a hypocrite by using the public interest pretences to further your own personal agenda.<\/p>\n

I am therefore writing to demand that you:<\/p>\n

1. Write a letter containing a suitable withdrawal and apology in terms to be approved by me on my client’s behalf;
\n2. Give us your assurance and undertaking in writing that you will not repeat the publication of these or similar allegations concerning my client;
\n3. Indemnify my client in respect of the costs to which he has been put in the matter.<\/p>\n

I ask that you let me have a reply within the next 7 days upon receipt of this letter. In the meantime it must be clearly understood that my client reserves all his rights in the matter.<\/p>\n
